My new Toy
So jealous.
I've been getting a bit bored with the Evo so, I was thinking it might be time for a change and a Supra would be fun.
However, like you've already said they are hard to find, people want an arm and a leg for one, and if reasonably priced it has high mileage or body work. I want one mostly for the engine.
Maybe I should just build a 2JZ in the garage and drop it in an IS or older GS?
Anyway congrats on the sweet new ride.

Thanks for all the kind words fellas. The Supra TT really is an awesome car to drive. It's not as tight as the Evo was, but it's definitely not as "boaty" feeling as I've heard some people try to say it is. Those people have definitely never driven one. I missed my Evo for a while, but this car has helped take my mind off that...
I've already joined a few of the Supraforums, but they're just not as active/entertaining as this one for some reason. I have learned a lot about the TT there recently though.
As Gatorade said, a T88 (I'm assuming with all the supporting mods) is definitely not a good first mod option unless you want to build a dyno queen or drag strip only monster immediately. And yes, Gatorade, I'm going BPU+ immediately. For those that don't know, BPU is Supra-speak for "Basic Performance Upgrade". I believe standard BPU is intake/exhaust/boost controller. Anything you add on after that, while keeping the stock twins simply adds a +.
So, to answer the other questions, here are what's waiting for me in my garage, ready to go on this weekend:
- Apex'i Power Intake kit
- Full 3.5" turbo back exhaust (HKS carbon ti catback section)
- GReddy Profec B Boost Controller
- GReddy Boost Cut Controller
- Defi Link Controller
- Defi Link Boost Gauge, EGT Gauge
- HKS SSQV BOV
- GReddy 3 row FMIC
- Various Seibon Carbon Fiber Parts
I'll post pics later. These things are going on Saturday and Sunday, and I'm getting dyno'd again next Friday, so I'll post up my new power #s later. Again, thanks for the compliments.
And no, it wasn't a family friend. It was posted on eBay, and I couldn't believe the guy was selling a Supra TT in the condition he was describing. So, I paid a deposit for him to end the auction and hold the car for me, and I bought a plane ticket from Fort Myers, FL to Detroit. I saw the car, had it checked out, test drove it, bought it, and drove it straight home. It was a relatively easy 20 hr. drive. I had a friend with me and we tag teamed it. We didn't get uncomfortable once the whole time. It performed beautifully on the highway. My most entertaining moment involved a WRX attempting to overcome me in passing gear from highway speeds....funny stuff.
I thought about that with my car pre-evo, a '01 IS300. I loved that car and really wanted to boost it, but the AWD bug bit me instead, and I bought the Evo.
Following that train of thought, you could definitely build a 2JZGTE and drop it in just about anything it will fit in, but you'd also most likely want to get the Getrag tranny and Supra TT rear end also.
However, the old IS300, GS300, SC300 all had the 2JZGE blocks, which were essentially the same block as the GTE. Obviously, they weren't identical though, compression was way different, many other turbo-related parts were different, and they weren't over-built from the factory like the 2JZGTE. When I was hunting for a turbo kit on my IS, I saw kits starting at 320whp all the way up to 600+, all for the 2JZGE. So, that motor is no slouch either. One of the sickest cars I've ever ridden in was a turbo IS300 from Toyomoto in Miami, it dyno'd at 558whp. He lost traction 1-4th with his A/T, it was a fun ride.
That being said, you can choose from a ton of turbo options for the regular 2JZGE for a lot less time, money, and energy than an all-out 2JZGTE swap into one of those cars. But, the swap has been done a lot, so the option is definitely a realistic one.

I know this guy in town that stores his 95 Supra TT with me in the winters.
Its red, auto, no wing,,,, and its clean as hell !!!! I just love looking at it when he brings it in. The lines of the TT Supra is just time less.
All stock with 54,000 miles and he would like to sell it.
$26k. Omaha area.

Someone earlier was mentioning their desire to find one of the "rare silver" Supras, that would be the Quicksilver. I believe they were only made in the final production year of 1998, and there were only like 33 total made in that color. Here's a link to one for sale right now, but it's like $47k. 700+whp and 1 out of 9 automatics in that color, so it's pretty rare, pretty wicked and all around pretty. http://www.vipimports.com/currentinventory.php
