"A car tester for a magazine at the qualcomm 1/8th drags in San diego had the new 04 STI car for a week and had taken it through its paces thus far. I talked to him a bit on the performance of the vehicle...which was beautiful to see in person. Anyhow, he said it dyno'd 250whp (I don't know what type of dyno) THe turbo is an IHI VF30 which suprised me since I hadn't heard anything on the type of turbo. I figured something a little larger for the bump in displacement, but what do I know. I didn't ask how much boost it runs. He said it ran 13.0 flat in the quarter (I didn't ask where). As for comparison purposes, he recently tested the Evo8 and said it doesn't even compare to the new Sti. His next adventure is to hit the gravel...eek."
The guy driving it was obviously a press guy.. lol Hope we don't get him in trouble. But anyway on the video in this link he ran a 60 foot time of 1.9 secs. Supposedly his 1/8 the times were around 8.7. I think the flat 13 second quarter that comes from the link was taken at a different reace track. Dyno was also supposedly 250 whp.
Now for my 2 cents. This was in california on thier cheap gas. Plus You got to remember that we have to shift one time more than most. So that could explain the 1/8th time and us still hitting 13 sec. Also means that this sti is one major beast, even on the top end.

Here is a link telling of the sti against a 99 cobra.

No video but this is what they said.
"My friend came down with his stock 99 Cobra. We took it to carlsbad. One his first run he lined up against a brand new WRX STi.. The STi ran a 13.3 and my friend ran a 15.7 @ 89!!
After that, the STi ran 13.3's all day and the best my friend could do was low 14's at 100-103mph. His 60fts were like 2.4 everytime.
He had a problem with his tires or something.. they were worn as ****. When he'd shift into 2nd gear his car would fishtail.. He said he had to let off the throttle to keep from losing control. He was dissapointed cause he wanted to see 13's at least.. but he felt a little better cause their were two stock ellis's running the exact same times as him
The STi cut a 1.8 60ft when he ran against my friend.. I forget what the trap speed was. That car was so ****ing awesome.
I heart the STi.. it was so sweet. BBS wheels, massive brembos, sparco seats.. everything about this car was freakin amazing. I bet it could run faster.. the guy driving the car said he didnt own it and I heard he was testing it for a magazine. I think the STi could hit lower 13's.. possibly even high 12's stock"

I don't understand how people will race on very worn tires. That's blatantly ignoring safety for yourself and others. They should catch stuff like that at tech inspection.
