Definitely looking for something RWD.
Would like something light that you can really toss around.
Doesn't need to be insanely fast, but don't want something really slow either.
Looking for something a little unique and interesting as a car in general.

Don't really want to get a miata.
Like e30 m3s a lot. (current favorite choice)
Don't really want a Porsche either.

Basically anything fun and interesting to throw around, just tryin to do a bunch of research and get a lot of ideas to narrow down the search. thanks a lot!
1985-1987 Camaro IROC-Z. They handle at 0.92g right off the showroom floor, as they're equipped with a Bilstein suspension. They'll run the 1/4 in the 14.90-15.20 range (not fast, but not slow), and they weigh about 3200-3400 lbs. That's not light, but it's not a sled either. They can probably be picked up for around $3500 in decent shape.

Also keep in mind that there is a huge aftermarket for the 3rd generation F-Bodies. Another suggestion would be a Fox-Body Mustang. You can't find a larger aftermarket than one for a Fox.

1st generation Mazda Miata?

Last generation Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS? Yeah, it's AWD, but they're not overly heavy cars.

1985-1986 Corvette- expect to pay around $7000, but with a nice set of stickies they were known to corner at over 1.0g on the skidpad.

I dont know how much better of a track car your going to get compared to the Evo. Track the Evo and buy a daily driver. Thats what i plan on doing.

Yeah the main concern with that is just the cost of maitenance. From what I've read (which isn't much, still in the learning phase) it just seems like the evo would eat up brakes and tires (and cost more for replacement brakes) a lot faster than something like a 2500lb rwd car. I'm not necessarily looking for something better than the evo, just something cheap and fun to throw around that I don't need to worry about as much.

and the evo is just too fun of a car on the street. I feel bad beating the **** out of it at the track even though i know it can take it.

First figure out what your long term goals are. Do you want to race this car or just tool around on the track?

Common cars to consider: Miata (I don't see why you wouldn't consider this), E30 & E36 M3, C4 corvette, Nissan 240, 90's Mustangs & Camaros. There is a lot of info and support for all these cars and that's a big plus.

There's also a few FWD cars that should be considered. Mainly the Integra (not an ITR).
