track car suggestions

I'm looking into possibly purchasing a dedicated track car and was wondering you guys out there that have a lot of experience what some fun cars are.

Definitely looking for something RWD.
Would like something light that you can really toss around.
Doesn't need to be insanely fast, but don't want something really slow either.
Looking for something a little unique and interesting as a car in general.

Don't really want to get a miata.
Like e30 m3s a lot. (current favorite choice)
Don't really want a Porsche either.

Basically anything fun and interesting to throw around, just tryin to do a bunch of research and get a lot of ideas to narrow down the search. thanks a lot!

e30 m3 usually run about 12-20 K, that is probably too much for a track car. My next track car will be a EG or EK civic hatch with a CTR swap. Even e30-325is run about 4-6 K and their parts are uber expensive.

I know you said no Miata, but I would go drive one and see what you think. You can pick one up used for next to nothing and they are cheap to drive and maintain. I love the E30 M3, but I would never buy one as a dedicated track car because of cost.

I think I have mentioned this like three times on this forum and nobody listens to me. The KING of track cars is a Civic EG CX Trim with 70 mind blowing horsepower. Manual everything, ghetto drums and warped front rotors, and 13" steelies. Anyone who owns a modified evo, (especially the ones that have cams and alky or something.) will absolutely laugh as the car tries to get to 65mph using its 1.5L engine that revs to the screaming 6500 rev limiter. Of course you won't know when it gets there because it has no tach or anything, you just bounce of the limiter when you get to like 55mph in first. Did I mention it only has 70hp w/ the AC OFF?!!

I have no idea how much 02 (or whenever S2K came out) OR early 90's NSX costs but I'll throw the idea in for fun
Try older Nissans (240sx, 300z, etc) with engine swaps if you're willing to go that far
RX-7 (if you're willing to deal with engine troubles yourself)

Get a 2'nd gen rx-7. Can get a running one for less then $1,500. Drop a ls1 in it. Its not that mutch heavier then a 13B wankle and your TQ with the light rx-7 would be killer for a track car. Plus they look amazing. imo

(kinda like the one in my avatar, only thats a gt35r 13B)

with a 2'nd gen rx-7. complete ls1 swap and all the goodies id bet you could build it for under 10 grand. (if you did a lot of work yourself)

2nd gen MR2 Turbo. Small, light, RWD, turbo, looks amazing, Toyota reliability. That would be my choice for a track car.
