This is a good point, I am pretty sure the R34 (possibly other Skylines as well) have AYC to distribute different amounts of power between the front and rear wheels. It is quite possible that he had a switch in his cockpit to switch from RWD to AWD.

Actually the ATTESSA AWD system found in Skylines is a prodominantly RWD system that transfers power to other wheels as on looses traction, not only front to back, but also side to side; as far as i know. That is why it is distinguished as one of the most advanced AWD systems ever by a lot of people. Not to mention the insane amount of power is can withstand without fault.

I'm not sure if this is the reason for the RWD burn out, but none the less it is a possibility.

He has some sort of hydraulic torque split thing IIRC.

But as others mentioned, the ATTESSA system in GT-R's (and the lesser GTS-4) only transfers torque to the front wheels when wheelspin is detected in the rear wheels. You can override this simply by pulling a fuse but most people make a switch which enables you to do RWD burnouts and have AWD traction at the flick of a switch. Old trick now.

So to dredge up an old thread, Heat Treatments have finally chipped a respectable little chunk off their old record this weekend - 7.45 @ 193mph and then backed up with 7.41 @ 193mph.

The car is very very seriously modified and in no way a road car - but to anticipate the typical questions or criticisms, this car IS still 4WD and IRS... drive to the front is only disabled for warming up of the tyres, Reece McGregor (driver) has his work cut out for him every run with the front and rear needing to be wrestled into line the whole way down the strip, seeing it in person makes it quite obvious.
