You can get a base model Z (www.nissanusa.com) for around $28,000, but probably closer to around $26,000 if you negotiate on the price. However, the base Z is completely worthless. What kind of "sports car" has an open differential?

The Z really isn't a bad car. It's just not on par performance-wise with the others in its price range. In fact, the STi/STI and the Evo shouldn't even be considered competitors of the Z. Comparing the STi/STI/Evo and Z is like comparing apples and oranges.

IF (and it would have to be a BIG "IF") I were to purchase a Z, I would most definitely have to go with either the "Enthusiast" or the "Track" model. Forget the "Touring" models. I don't want the extra weight. Provided the "Enthusiast" and "Track" models had the same suspension setup, I would probably go with the "Enthusiast" model, and then just upgrade the brakes if it was cost-effective. The "Enthusiast" model doesn't have the Brembo braking system, while the "Track" model does.

I think z's are highly overrated. I think that z's are slow and should not be considered true sports cars. That being said. I do Like the look of the car. I think it looks better than my evo, and i think the interior is better than my evo but after buying turbo-back exhaust, and ecu-flash. and a wideband, I haven't really found a car yet that could compare to my car. I have never dynoed my car. But have outran corvettes, c6-c5, no prob. I haven't even invested a grand in my car. Bought used exhaust. Would like to see a 350z do that....

So, with an ECU flash, a wideband, and a turbo-back exhaust, which netted you maybe 280-290 whp (I'll be generous and spot you 10 hp for 300 whp), you outran a 400 hp C6 that puts down 330-340 whp, plus weighs about 250 lbs lighter than an Evo, plus has better aerodynamics by a long stretch than an Evo, "no prob?"

I smell something, and it isn't lilacs.

Provided the C6 driver couldn't drive, it would definitely be possible. New C6s are running in the 12.50 range. An Evo with a TBE, tune, and wideband isn't going to be running that quickly. They'd be running closer to a 12.70 or 12.80.

On the top end, or off of a roll,an Evo with those mods wouldn't touch a C6. Top speed? Forget about it. Even if the Evo could travel faster, it would run out of gear long before it would run out of power.

I've NEVER seen a base model Z for sale, and yes I've looked and searched inventories. There's 4 to 5 Nissan dealerships in my area. Then again Evo RS's are pretty rare themselves. But I've seen more RS's than base Z's. LOL @ open diff

Don't know why everyone is bringing up the Open diff. The C6 has leaf springs and it does the job. Also I've seen a lot of base Z and heard of them going for even as low as $24-25k.
