Disappointing Dyno Results....

Just dynoed my '05 STi had Mach V the other day. The results were pretty heartbreaking.

Most stock STis are dynoing in the 240-250 whp and 250 lb/ft tq range, according to Dan. I have a Cobb Stage 1 ECU tune anda a K&N drop-in right now....not exactly setting the world on fire with mods, but nonetheless....

I had 3 pulls. My best pull was appr. 243 whp and 272 lb/ft tq. Here are the results of the pulls. Any comments/suggestions as to why my numbers could be so low? Sorry about the bottom two photos. I don't have a flat-panel scanner where I could scan the sheet.

I think with a catless downpipe and and a free flow exhaust, you'd be able to unleash an additional 30 whp with the Cobb stage 2.

You're probably right, Avery. Most Stage II STis/STIs are putting down between 270-280 whp with nothing more than Stage II. I'll be happy when I hit about 300 whp. I never planned on modding this car anyway, but what the Hell.....

Alot of STi's dont respond that well to the off the shelf maps. Get an exhaust and protune and you will be very happy with the results.

That's what I'm gathering. The only reason I was concerned about it is because on this particular dyno, according to Dan at Mach V, stock STis are turning about 240-250 whp and 250 lb/ft tq. I just question the OTS tune or operation of my car because WITH the map, I'm only putting down 243 whp, which is still right about what a stocker would do. Maybe I just anaylze too much.

My stage 2 with just a shorty downpipe(catless) and Perrin drop-in made 270hp/319tq on a Mustang dyno. so I say go for stage 2.

I'm looking into the Cobb dp. I've heard that it's a pretty decent one. According to Cobb, that's all I need, and then I can run Stage II.

You are 20+ ft lbs up on TQ which is GREAT....You really would need to compare curves, but my guess is that you are getting knock and pulling timing on the upper end....Did you log boost or AFR or knock ? If not do so and re-post...

No, I haven't logged anything. I just got my car dynoed. They could've done an air/fuel analysis, but I figured Cobb runs rich anyway, so I really didn't find it necessary to do so.

Right now I'm running the Stage 1 93 Octane program. If crappy gas is an issue, would it be more beneficial to run a Stage 1 91 Octane program instead?

I think what you need to do is to dyno the car (stock) without the Cobb then dyno after adding the Cobb to determine the contribution the accessport is actually making (while logging timing etc.).

It is NOT crappy gas...But if you are running too rich that would explain why you are not recognizing as much HP as a custom tune...

My recommendation would be to contact jestrtuning....

Sinister,

Definitely go with a TBE with a custom tune by Jestr. You'll be extremely happy with the gains to be had with two minor upgrades. Ever think about running meth injection as well?

Oh, no doubt! I totally agree. I didn't even plan on dynoing the car. If I had, I would've brought the AccessPORT along with me. It was sort of "on a whim."
