Question Wyotech HPPT Dyno #'s

Hi there gang. I've been attending wyotech's HTTP (high performance powertrain) class, it's freakin awsome btw. Got a problem though. We got stuck with a SRT-4 for our project vehicle...i don't say that because it's a bad car, but because of the lack of mods the school provided for dyno testing. We have DC sports cat back, manual boost controller, and intake supposedly otw. For this phase we can only do mechanicle modifications, so anyone got any ideas on what to modify with no money? Our grade is determined by how much testing you do to a car. My thoughts so far is playing with the airbox, turbo vacuum lines, running no exhaust. Also, i don't need to see a gain from any mod...just test it on the dyno.

Baseline for SRT was 207hp (highest) ...forgot torque. Cobalt SS ran 227hp consistantly, SRT jumped all over the place. STI will run after it gets new tires...and unfortunately after rumors...still no EVO.

Next phase is engine management...can't wait!

You should probobly check out some srt forums and not an evo forum. I know its in other cars but srt owners could help you more I am sure

Suggestions:
Run downpipe only, no cat..
Use the "Spring mod" to hold more boost to redline, since you're using the stock wga - search srtforums.com for a how-to..
Run some race gas
Run high boost ^_^;

Yeah, i was gonna post this in the srt forums, but it wouldn't let me...and i don't have the time to search anything. Unfortunately, can't do the spring mod...it's a stamped BOV.

207whp baseline for an SRT-4 is way off, the car is notorious for boost leaks and I suggest you look at the intercooler piping, that is where they most often occur, not to mention a stock waste gate is known to leak up to 4psi over the powerband, **** if they had just given you an AGP WGA and you set it at 18psi spike 15-16psi hold you would be looking at 240-245whp with a good 260-270tq all day long. I don't know what that cobalt SS had for mods but I know for damn sure that was NOT a baseline I don't care what anyone says.

LOL. Check out Wyotech on the web. Before you do anything cool, you gotta do the 6 month basic automotive course. That in itself teaches you tons. Electives are 3 months long. This elective is "High Performance Powertrain", and teaches ALL types of performance, dyno tuning, ecu mapping, gearing, and some head machining.....etc.

I guess I'm pretty screwed on the car....nothing to do, so I'll try some thermal tests on the intercooler or something....DC sports exhaust gained 10 Hp, but sounds stock, and sits WAY uneven (looks like crap).

Well, today we got some cool results. We took off exhaust to run D.P. only, and got a base line of 203.67hp 233.61 tq. We then took off the factory air filter, and did some thermal testing. We put a bag of ice on the I.C., a bag of ice on the intake manifold, then sprayed the I.C. with a very cold water/salt solution. We ended up getting the outlet side of the I.C. to about 40 degrees. Best run with the ice was 218.21hp 240.13tq. I knew cold air made an impact, but I didn't think that much....nICE!

This morning a classmate got to dyno his stock '06 MR.

2 runs:
1. Max Power = 239.29 Max Torque = 247.62
2. Max Power = 238.43 Max Torque = 241.08

First run was a crappy pull and power peaked at 3500 rpm, and slowly tapered off. Second pull's curve looked alot better, with power peaking at 6K-6.5K rpm. This guy is getting the ECU cable and tuning next phase of the class. Should be interesting. I guess I'll be posting #'s from a bunch of cars.

Just got to dyno my '02 OZ. Mods are RRM axleback + T.B, RMR Intake.

I did 3 runs and best was :
Max Power = 108.94 Max Torque = 118.94

My plans are for a Mivec swap eventually, but I will be mapping the ecu next phase to see what kind of power I can get out of this little POS engine LOL!
