1 month of supra ownership
Congrats on the new purchase! and I don't think you'll be kicking yourself in the **** or regretting anything. The Supra is a great car, end of story. Its not fair to compare one to the other since they are in such different catagories especially the handling comment you made. Of course like all opinions... everyone has one but my first Supra was a '98 QS w/ only 5k miles on it and I got it in march or '00 so newer then buying it off the lot you can't get, anyways I still say car for car (stock that is) the Evo has a MUCH better feel. Its so much more agile, better handling, cornering overall feel and confident in the turns then the Supra its not even funny. The Supra is a big heavy GT car not a real "sports" car like say an RX7, to be honest the Evo feels more like a sports car then Supra hands down. I had the pleasure of owning 5 Supra's and they all had less then 20k miles one them and moderate suspension work and still can't do what the Evo does around turns. In terms of build quality my vote goes to the Supra but not for reliability but for overall looks, feel, and materials used vs. the plain jane plastic interior which is found in the Evo's little brother the Lancer.
As far as respect goes I'm with you on that one as well. The only thing I hate about the Evo is the stigmata that it brings... most people see it and think ricer, kid like, teeny bopper which I hate being i'm 30 and single again now and when you pull up in a car like an Evo woman my age might think stwice... I know what most of you guys are ready to go and start tearing me apart saying we you must not be to secure in yourself or you shouldn't care what others think and if she's any good she shouldn't like you for what you drive blah, blah, blah but when you get a little older you'll understand, trust me on that one. Women not girls like Men not boys and their toys... Now when you pull up in a Supra it does command a little more respect and that comment about its been around for ever yada yada yada doesn't hold water because I can't count how many times I take the car out on a nice day and every light I stop at or every store I go to someone always asks me what kind of car is that? or is that the new model or man you never see those around anymore... WOW! Remember not cars guys are a very rare bread and don't account for the rest of the world so they don't know the difference between a Yugo or Mustang and I'm not kidding everytime I have to talk to someone about the car and that's a cool feeling I won't lie. Its never happened to me in my EVo and not that I care and I didn't buy it for the respect or clout it would bring but because of what it was and what it could do. They are two totally different animals, period. They get the respect the get because of what they have accomplished and I'm proud of owning one and won't let this one go this time.
Again nice ride and good luck with the car!

have to agree that the stock Supra suspension seems more set up for comfort than speed... I was not impressed after driving a '94 TT with auto trans. It was bone stock by the way... also... it didn't even really feel that fast, and I expected the tires to chirp or something once I turned the traction control off... but it didn't. I didn't brake boost though, just off the brakes on the gas.
It was nice, minus some of the interior bits that are shared with a regular Corolla (turn signal and windshield wiper stalks, for instance), and it was nice overall... I guess all the hype though just set me up for dissapointment.
Having driven both the TT and Evo, I'd take the Evo in a heartbeat.

I can only say congrats for hearing that you are happy. As far is the Supra, it is one of the last cars I would buy, no one in this world will convince me or justify why that car is as overprice as it is, certainly not because is the best.
For a fraction of the price you pay for a Supra you could get the cars that were equally in price at the time:
C4 vette
Nissan 300Z
3000 GT VR4
RX7
Dodge Stealth R/T TT
I wouldn't mind having a Supra TT but the resale price is just unjustifyable. There are some fast Supras out there but they spent thousands of dollars modding them. At the end, you could also build a 300 ZX and save money but I guess because the Supra was on the movie the fast and the furious and because a few tuners(WOTM , Titanmotorsports, etc) had a 8 sec car the Supras are respected.
I honestly think that you went one step back by trading the Evo. The Evo out performs the Supra in every aspect out of the box. The only time I would be interested on buying a Supra TT would be if they start reseel ing them for a reasonable price which is 10-15k (what they are worth).
Enjoy your new car.

Love it. The supra is a great car, I just dont think I care for the whole auto thing in a "sports" car but to each their own. I am friends with twin brothers that share a 94 tt and a gs400 and we go play from time to time in them. They just bought it and arent very happy about the little 4door 4cyl beating them. Till about 120 anyways. So they will be investing in some modds very soon. I do agree that they get more attention, but it great when we go out together we have been asked a few times who's car is faster and when I say "mine is of course" people look at you like "WTF really?" We weighed our cars the other day and I was suprised that the supra didnt weigh more. It was 3520lbs and my gsr weighed 3220lbs.
As far as what fromWRXtoEVO said, your highly mistaken if you think that a extreamly rare car that can handle 1000hp stock is only worth 10-15k. Granted 35+ is a little insane but people pay more then 10k building JUST the motor for their cars to only handle 5-600hp. The only thing you listed that could even hold a somewhat close fight would be an rx7 and that would only last for about 20,000 niles before it tossed the apex seals. BPU supra's run in the 11's no problem.
I considered selling the evo and getting a mkiv but I just cant justify the money so I think I am going to do a 2jz-gte SC300 or possibly a GS300. Same capabilities as the supra, same great build quility/reliebility as the supra, great looking car, but far cheaper and a bit more sleeper as well. Easy reliable 600hp on pump gas for under 15k if you do a sc and the pimp factor in a GS3 is freakin awsome plus the interior is cush.
here is a couple pics of my car and my friends supra and GS

Go take your town car and shove it in your butt crack and maybe just maybe you'll find your head lodged in there too? You obviously have no knowledge of the auto supra. So if you have negative comments keep them to yourself. effen idiot
I love the looks of the MKIV Supra, but I wouldn't buy one. I would however LOVE to swap a 2JZ-GTE and all the drivetrain bits into an IS300. All the power of a Supra in a lighter, more upscale body.

There's another member here (s10v8) hoping to get a supra too once he gets to sell his evo.
I still LOVE my evo though, wouldn't exchange it for any other car (well, except for a IX)
To each his own (or something like that)

Good looking Supra. Glad you are happy with your trade/purchase.
Personally I didnt buy a car to command repect...I earn it. A ricer is a ricer. It is a mentality/attitude. Most of them will race anything on a street, let alone a supra. Most guys make fun of the evo becuase they dont know anything about it. I had to deal with that living in Tn...muscle cars all over the place. Most of them believe that if a car isnt a v8..then it is slow as crap. I proved a lot of them wrong and changed their attitudes about the Evo. True..it takes a lot of money to go fast in the straights versus a mustang...but they know around the curves....it is different ballgame. I have rode in several fast supras, fun going fast, but I wouldnt trade my car for one. I would buy a supra as a toy, but personally I dont like the lack or response the supra gives in curvy rodes.

Oh man. Seriously, who here has actually driven, and I mean DRIVEN (road course, autocross, etc) both cars???
Your right, the Supra feels more solid. But stock suspension to stock suspension, te Evo feels very buttoned up compared to the Supra. The stock Supra was developed for a GT feel, more of a cruiser than a back breaker. Countless times I and others have compared the steering rack and feel on the Supra to a Camry after a quick romp.
So yes, if your about being isolated from the road, the Supra does indeed have a more "solid" suspension and drive feel. If you want a car that communicates with the driver, has a race car-quick rack, and can out handle many more expensive cars, the Evo wins.
The other thing I dont get is how you let yourself lose 9 grand, a year old Evo does not depreciate that quickly. And to those who sited Touring car teams being successful with Supras, do you actually realize how much stock content rides in those cars???
Its funny how the past is often over-dramatized. In football, John Elway is often clamed as the greatest quarterback ever. But even he laughs at the claims, bringing up the superbowls he lost, the interceptions he threw, the starting job he almost lost. The Supra is similar. Tails of 1000 hp and JTCC wins have clouded the memories of a now 10+ year old car.....
