STi...normal to burn 1 qt every 800 miles?

Can this be true? My gf has an 06 STi, we did the first oil change at 1500ish miles and then did another oil change in another 3k miles..we got an alarmingly low amount of oil back on the 2nd change, brought it back to the dealership and they marked off the bolts to make sure we weren't tampering with anything, they changed the oil and we came back in 2k miles and lost over a quart on its 3rd oil change.

So now the subaru tech's explained to me her car is a supercharged race car and race cars burn oil, so I explained to him I own a 79 Cutlass sbc, 70 Nova SS bbc, owned a 2003 wrx stage 4+ for 3 years and now own an Evo and none of my cars ever had this type of oil consumption..they explained that we'll just have to add a qt or so every 1k miles..

Just wondering if anyone else out there had friends/etc with a Subaru and experienced this..we've been on iwsti and nasioc asking questions but I felt the need to vent over here...considering all my friends told me I sold out for selling my WRX to buy a maintenance nightmare (the Evo) and it hasn't done me wrong yet.

Subaru say's 1 quart every 1000 miles, any more than that you should take the car to the dealer just to document the problem. It could save you alot of problems later. Also check

small crankcase design, and boost cause blow by. 1 qt evey 1000 miles should be fairly accurate.

my old rx8 use to go through oil but a quart every 2000-3000 miles.... thats normal....

not 3 quarts for every change... no point in draining the oil lol just keep adding

We spoke to someone at s.o.a. in cherry hill and they said the same thing...

Steve I told her not to buy one lol, but yeah I said we've been on iwsti and nasioc already asking about the problem...I just thought it was weird cause my WRX didn't burn nearly as much oil and my Evo doesn't seem to burn any so to speak...

I almost fell over when the lady told me its a race car, they do that...I felt like being a jerk and asking if the Forester XT/Baja/Legacy/WRX etc are all race cars too considering they share the same block...but oh well.

Try different oil. I beat the hell outta my STi and I loose maybe 1/2 qrt in 1500 miles. I use Mobil 1 10w-30 full synthetic.

I had a 05 wrx as well and it seemed to be burning oil. The dipstick suks is what I think is the problem. I had it slightly moded and it blew out some blue smoke. This usually happened before I did an oil change and a little bit after I added some oil because it seemed to be low. I tried not to add any oil between oil changes and that seemed to be the solution to the problem. I don't know if this helps but I hate the stupid dipstick on those cars. This is just a possibility. Please add oil if u think that what the car needs. I would hate to be the one you listen to and blow your girlfriends motor.

Try a 40 weight oil, and give amsoil or royal purple a try. Mine burned quite a bit as well and when I switched over to 40 weight royal purple it pretty much came to a stop.
