2008-2009 Bmw M3

I know what I want after I finish law school in 2010!

http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-m3.html

BMW has revealed the production version of the 2008/2009 M3 coupe. The unveiling comes only weeks after the automaker revealed the M3 Concept at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Like the concept, the production car features a high-revving V8 powerplant, tuned suspension, a six-speed manual transmission, a carbon fiber roof, and all the exterior modifications typical of an "M" car.

Due to go on sale in North American in mid-2008 as a 2009 model, the M3 will target the Lexus IS-F, Audi RS5, and Mercedes CLK63 AMG. Convertible and sedan variants are expected to follow later in 2008.

The M3's V8 powerplant has two more cylinders than its predecessor, delivering 420 hp from 4.0 litters and maximum torque of 295 lb-ft at 3,900 rpm. In keeping with BMW's high-revving "M" tradition, maximum engine speed is 8,300 rpm. The engine is the lightest V8 in the world, weighing less than the previous M3's inline-six.

Reminiscent of the carbon fiber roof panel used on the M6 coupe, the M3's CFRP roof cuts unnecessary weight, and lowers the car's center of gravity. It also lets the roof edge appear flatter and thus lowers the perceived body height.

The production M3 is pictured with 18-inch wheels, though BMW is also expected to offer 19-inch alloys similar to the Y-spoke ones featured on the M3 concept.

While 420 is a lot, 500hp corvettes, 600hp vipers, 425hp chargers, 400hp-500hp camaro's, 500hp cobra's, 420 Jeep Srt-8's, 300+ Evo's and STI's, 500HP Cayenne's... For the money I'd expect the power output to be higher.

Who cares. Take them around a track and the Camaro would get destroyed. At the end of the day the guy driving the BMW.....is driving a BMW, and the other sucker is driving a Chevy. Not to mention the old M3 wasnt exactly a slouch either this one is going to be faster than that....so I dont see it being a bad race

The Camaro's (Commodore) suspension was benchmarked against BMW, Lexus, Jaguar, Lincoln. The Commodore also won the Australian car of the year award.

With the LS3 and the huge LSx aftermarket, 520+hp/500+lb-ft cam swapped Camaros will be commonplace.

Granted the Camaro and M3 are on different planets, but it's still good that an average Joe can buy a $28k Camaro coupe and have M3 type performance for a few grand.

oh boy hear we go AGAIN!!!

not to mention as everyone keeps forgetting, some people keep there cars stock!
is that for me and most of us here, no, some people dont want to swap cams and you have to compare them how they come from the factory. in all honesty were not all arguing power number to number, at the end of the day it come down to brand loyalty. i think BMW is better cause they pay the bills but some f you will think a Chevy is better cause thats all your dad ever built. see where im going with this.

i really dont want to get hot on this topic (i have ahuge thread on this already)

that skimpy torque that you guys think your seeing is available through like 85%
of the rev range and then 420hp ta boot!
this is a must drive (or know how BMW thinks) car before everyone can trash it.

Did you not read what I typed?

Regardless, it should still be interesting to see road course times stock vs stock (just for fun - I'm not saying M3 buyers should buy Camaros ). The Camaro will be a few hundred pounds heavier with a lesser advanced suspension, but it'll have an extra 100+ lb-ft to play with.

I agree.. but the mullets dont settle things this way Eventhough this is a "track car"... it still sucks to spend 70K and then loss to some punk in a 28-30K camaro on a highway pull both cars being stock. Maybe there will be some really nice long tube headers for the m3 though that will really open it up. Im not going to judge it anymore till its actually on the street.
