My advice is steer clear of the B5 platform all together (A4 or S4). If you have a high tolerance for pain and spending huge amounts of $$$$, then get a B5 S4. It's a good platform to mod, with a lot of potential, but there are no cheap mods for it. Dealers quote something like 30 hours to swap out the turbos, which is not an "if" but a "when" with the crappy k03's. So $2700 for K04's and inlets, might as well do the clutch and lwfw since you're in there (add $1400), also downpipes ($1500) and new engine & trans mounts ($600), oil cooler ($500), intercoolers ($1300), etc. And you haven't even touched the crappy stock suspension or worthless stock brakes.

On top of that, the pedal placement in the B5 sucks, period. Heel & toe-ing it is out of the question.

Just go for a B6 or B7, the platform is significantly improved and just drives better.

the fact is, audi in general sucked complete *** before 2000.... notice everyone saying how much they suck have older pos ones lol... its a great company now..

teh b5 s4's are hit or miss, 1/2 people have a lot of trouble and the other 1/2 will never see a problem.

as far as mods for the b6.. springs are good, chip is good i would go with giac. apr is really mild and basically similar to a stock tune but just more boost. i would skip on the intake you dont make much power at all with them. I'd go with an exhaust. a bov is also good since the stocker compeltely sucks. the forge 007 is pretty popular and not very loud.

and you need to get those lower painted asap =-p 2 tone is the gay

can the "newer" audi's take a beating? for example the "beatings" that evo's can go through?

I really don't know on the B6/B7 models, but I'd guess no. The suspension design is similar to the B5's and those ball joints take one hell of a beating under normal use. I'd imagine they run into the same problem I have, needing to replace the control arms every 50k or so. Again, that's without tracking the car.

I have a 2005 a4, very good car, I dont know about the timing belt cause mine is still low on the mileage, but very good car otherwise, performance parts cost the same or less than a EVO at times

the a4 has plastic moldings that are unpainted along the bumpers and sideskirts..how much would that cost to get painted on average?

Painting costs maybe $200 from a body shop, to prep/prime/paint.

Now the B5 is what I have a 1.8T and it's a pretty nice car. Timing belt wise, the dealer charges $1,000.00 for it, and other aftermarket shops will be a tiny bit cheaper at $875 for my calls around Boston here.

There are a few little electrical problems here and there that can be fixed/battled. B5's are supposed to have the little bit of an edge for "faster" but the new 2.0T's will be a lot easier to get to a certain "power level" than the 1.8T's found on the b5's. Also I think the newer models look hot too

Remember, they are two different cars.. one is "luxury" one is "rally inspired". You can beat on the Audi, but just be prepared to pay to play. I'm sure the Evo will handle more of a beating, and the Audi itself will just cost a heck of a lot more to repair as well as find parts.

Still I like the B5, it's a fun daily driver and I'd love to keep it until it dies.
