M3 owners

I found out a 2005 M3 (Euro spec) today at the track.

Let's just talk about straight line performance from a roll.

From 90mph to 155mph both cars accelerated equal. Any cm more any cm less...

Is my Evo under-powered?

How many awhp would be necessary to beat a M3 from a roll?

From a roll the evo would need about 300awhp to keep up with the M. The M and the evo weigh about the same but the M comes with 333 at the crank when yours comes with 287 at the crank. When those number are turned into wheel hp there is a 19% loss for the M but a 22% loss for the Evo. So you would need about 350 crank hp and about 300-310 awhp. some one correct me if im wrong but i think my numbers are pretty good.

Pretty close. I had about 325 AWHP on my old Evo and M3's couldn't touch it.

Weight? gear ratios? turbo lag? etc..

The simpler is to get your Evo up to stage1 (Full exhaust, mbc and a decent flash..) and you'll get enuf to get any M3..

50-trim or gt35r and M3s will look like corollas....ie. you're wasting gas.

but it is funny to see the expressions on their face when you blow by them.

Down low it doesnt take much but gearing is a problem. I was pushing 270hp on a low reading mustang dyno and could pull on a e46 M3 if we started at under 60 till about 100ish after that they would walk away like I let off the gas completely. If we started at 70+ I might get a 1/2 car if I brake boosted but then they would pull me fairly hard paticularly if I had to shift into 5th.

i have a vishnu stage 1 evo (cams, cam gears, exhaust, EXEDE, no cat, tuning) and i consistently walked on my buddies e46 m3 from a roll at about 50mph on the hwy.

on the track i need to lift if i'm behind him and we're going down the front straight from about 90-130mph.

my evo with these stage 1 mods is consistently faster than the stock m3's. hell, my impression is that it's slightly faster than my 997 S.

evo's are fast out of the box and very easy (and cheap) to kill m3's and porsche's all day long.

be safe!

OK, according to you, an Evo needs 300awhp in order to keep up with an M3, right? Mine has those 300awhp, good for 12 flat at 114mph, which means is about 1.5 secs and 7-9 mph faster than a stock M3. That's a huge difference. A stock Evo is as fast as a M3.

By the way, the M3 is aprox. 250 lbs. heavier than the Evo.

You guys are playing the numbers game again......EVOfunk, you made 300awhp on a Mustang dyno and ran 115 trap speed. This sounds more like 330-340 awhp in reference to this conversation.

You're probably right for the M3 - 19%, but the Evo is losing a lot more than 22%; more like 30-33%

19 is probably a little high for the M

I have always steered clear of Evo challenges, but E46 M3 verts cant pull on my NA 330 anywhere over 70-75, I wonder if that means I should start messing with stock evos lol

Do you have Ohlins on your e30 too?

If you have a evo 9 - just a tbe/tune/mbc and he can not touch you on the hw.

Nah - stock, except an Iigomotiv chip that kicks ****

You can mess with Evos at that speed (stock turbos, no OH or Meth, etc....) We're not impressive in that arena (for the most part), but all of the others - Look Out!
