My stepdad has a stealth TT and I think its pretty fun. He did some mods. DP, Intake, i think thats about it. Thing cruises for what it is. Definite pig, but for a car that is old and fat. It moves. Its fun. I would much rather something else though.

The 3000GT is one of the best looking cars ever made IMO. 1999 was the last year it was sold in the US and it is was so ahead-of-it's-time looking you could put them in showrooms today. The problem with the car was the weight. The VR-4 (TT AWD) weighed almost as much as a Silverado truck from the same year. They are pretty reliable cars (my wife had an non-turbo 94) as long as the maintance was kept up. The very important 60K services were quite expensive so many of the cars in the used market suffered due to not being properly serviced. If you purchase one get a dealer invoice showing the date and mileage of the timing belt replacement at least!
If you want to make her fast, the first step is to cut the weight. For example, the rear seat is useless so toss it, a carbon hood also drops something like 65 pound from the front. After that, it is a turbo car so open up the exhaust and change from the side-mount intercoolers to a larger front-mount. Good luck, i love the GTOs so i hope you find a good one.

I heard that the GTO block is pretty weak for high HP application, and working on it is a b!tch because of there's basically no room.

One thing I hate about it the most is the rear seat. It's a big car but there's no room in the back at all. I thought the MKIV Supra was bad, the GTO is even worse.

On average an evo is about 2-3 10ths faster from what I have seen. I also now the early 90s 5sp ones were only a high 13 sec car but not sure about a 94...car just never really caught me eye as a good performance car.
Yes, I also think that a stock Evo IX is a few ticks faster than the 94-99 VR4 (320bhp version), I was just talking about numbers from car mags.

I had a 95 3000GT (DOHC 222bhp version) and the specs on the users manual indicated 3,320 lbs.

The gearing is totally different too. The 3000gt has some really long gears. Actually capable over over 225MPH if you had the power. Cruising around town in 6th gear won't break 2k rpm.

Weird my friend had a 98 SL and it weighed almost 3500 (about 3490 iirc and weighed on an accurate scale) thats with just a half tank of gas and nothing in it. I know the older ones were a tad lighter though. Definately one thing that was just mentioned is that they are long geared as hell...same as the TT model iirc.

Yeah, that is Trevor James, a coworker of mine in the USAF. Actually his latest time was a 10.3@138mph. His car just made about 6 weeks ago 601whp/630lb/tq at the Mustang Dyno at IAperformance in Tucson.

He has more than $15000 in mods on his car. He is running a pair of 16G with methanol and many many many other parts(carbon fiber driveshaft, fiber glass hood) carbon fiber roof, corbeau seats, buddy club rims, etc, etc).

Sure, no problem.

Evo 9 STOCK GSR only tested twice bone stock 14.1 and 14.0 @100mph at SIR(Tucson)
94 Dodge Stealth purchased with 112000 miles, first time ever at the track 13.90@98

Evo 9 with 3"TB, Dynoflash mail in flash,Buschur cone,LICP and Forged MBC 304whp/304lb/tq at 24psi on 91oct on a Mustang Dyno.
94 Stealth R/T 268whp/299tq bones stock at 12psi on 91oct same dyno
94 Stealth TT with 3" TB, CAI, and MBC set to 15psion 91oct same dyno 300.3whp/338lb/tq

Dodge Stealth with the mods ran a best of 13.4@102.5mph while the Evo 9 would run a 12.7@108 on 91oct at the same track with the mods

Evo 9 weighted roughly 3220lbs and the Stealth 3752lbs with no spare and almost no gas.

I am sure the Evo 9 would have run a bit quicker bone stock but the fastest ever Evo 9 stock to run at SIR ran a 13.6 (fastrob691). I just happend to ran it only twice. Perhaps I wcould ran faster but never tried more before modifying it more.

Thats what I suspected. 14.1 in a stock 9 is quite slow but maybe that track is just slow... but regardless your evo has a 2mph trap difference which indicates faster car...Also shows mod for mod how the evo dusts the VR4. Your evo stock should almost have been running what the modded VR4 did.

And as supermac says most of the weight comes from all the luxury stuff the vr-4 comes with. Like The seats, rims, hood, are heavy as ****. Can easily drop some lbs off the car and you'll be in the 12's stock (if you can drive of course)

As far as reliability each car has its own problems. If you're thinking about getting a vr-4 then i would at least get a 2nd gen as they have the least amount of problems and they come with more HP stock. The engine is pretty stout too. Guys are pullling 9s on the stock bottom end.
^^^^^^+10000000 Thanks for giving the car its props. I love that car and I will get one as soon as I find a decent one. I grew up driving Mitsubishi cars and I always knew they had potential. I want to have a Mitsu collection with my Evo and a VR-4.
