1 Series, no hype?
1 Series, no hype?
Personally, I can't wait until this comes to the states. Being a young person, 26, drivng around my Evo is def. fun. At times though I wish I had something a little smoother and more comfortable. I think this is where the 1 Series comes in. I was thinking of maybe getting this car as my DD. What do you guys think? Any opinions? Not to mention it won't cost an arm and a leg, roughly 30k for the turbo charged 135i.

i'll get excited when i see actual prices and performance specs......
there's a lot of talk and hype about this car, but just like the Evo X, i'll believe it when i see it........
If it lives up to the hype and happens to be around 30k......i'll be one of the first to have one......

What are you talking about
There has been like three or four threads in the Other Car forums a lone. Should be pretty sweet car, around 30K is a pipe dream though, try around $34,0000 to $35,000 starting price, which is still a lot cheaper than say a 335i. But just like the EVO X, still some specs we need to see, like will it truly weigh in around 200lbs less than a 335i, and I wouldn't be surprised if was de-tuned a little to make less power than the 335i.

Here is my guess on the specs of the 135i.
280hp/280tq (maybe even 260-270hp)
3300-3350lbs
Why do I say it will make less horsepower than a 335i because it just would not make sense to rate the 135i and 335i at the same power and plus the have the 135i be a lot lighter and cheaper. It would steal to many sells from the 335i.
Here are some nice photos of the car-

Car & Driver has a nice read this month on the 1 series...There is a ton of potential left on the floor (3.0L/Inline 6 cyl/twin-turbo), I would like to see what would happen if some of the tuners got their hands on one...If you ask me, it's a luxury pocket rocket...I think that BMW knows this, C&D made an interesting point, they have standard 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston rear (better brakes than the 3 series, say it ain't so!!)...C&D says that you can get the entry model for 27k...That means it is priced somewhere between a Mustang GT and G35...I would not be surprised if the 1 series wound up being the tuners' weapon of choice in the next few years...Any car can and will be modded for more power, weight is usually the more difficult concern (this is where the 1 series shines in comparison to the BMW fleet)...My prediction, simple bolt ons to raise boost and have a freer flowing exhaust will make some serious power...Suspension will be the easy part, I doubt the aftermarket won't jump on this platform...In all fairness, this is the first truly affordable, powerful BMW that in factory trim...I'm excited that it is being brought to the states and I can't wait to see what the aftermarket will have to offer...Straightup, I think the hatch looks dope too, shame we aren't getting that one in the same trim...
Bmw must like shooting themselves in the foot.
First the 335i>new m3.
Then 135i>335i.
This is of course speaking of "bang for the buck".
Those 3 models are way too close in performance. Considering you could get 2 135i's for the price of an M3.

Most of BMW's customer's don't shop for "bang for the buck". BMW has been very conscious of not stepping on their own feet; there was never an E46 M3 sedan because the performance was too close to the E39 M5. While the 335i might be scavenging a small number of M3 sales, the 135 and 335 probably won't be cross shopped much (just like the 3 and 5 series aren't, or the A4 and A6, etc).
