It ain't no BMW..........................
I agree it isn't a BMW and never will be, but then again I don't think Mitsubishi is trying to turn the EVO X into a BMW and if they did all you guys would ***** about that too- I bought a IX because to me it is the last true Evolution

I believe when they both come out, it would be fair to compare them, but my point is it is just a little to early to compare them when there are so many things we don't know about both cars

My last thing on this topic-

I find it extremely interesting how people are so quick to discredit Mitsubishi as a company when they have built some of the best cars around and created in my opinion one of the best engines ever the 4G63T. So many people like to compare $40K+ BMWs to $30K EVOs, and then fault the EVO on things it wasn't actually created to be good at. Who bought a EVO VIII or IX for its interior, or its creature comforts? What it was created for was for performance, and in that department Mitsubishi delivered. Is it perfect, hell no, but then again I find it hard to find any perfect cars. Mitsubishi doesn't create cars that are high end like BMW does, so you cannot really fault Mitsubishi, they did build one that I can remember and honestly it wasn't that bad. It was called the 3000GT VR4 and while it may have been a little over weight it still was pretty damn good car that offered accessories well beyond its time for its price tag (Active Aero system, sophisicated AWD system, and etc.) and this car just happend to outlast and outsell all its nearest competition the Supra, 300ZX, and RX-7. My point is Mitsubishi has rarely stepped into the realm of high end performance cars that BMW, Mercedes, and others occupy, and when they do, they actually build decent cars. Now it is BMW who is stepping into the lower spectrum occupied by Mitsubishi, Slowbaru, Nissan, and others and I just wouldn't assume BMW automatically has the best to offer. I here BMW quality this and that in comparison to a EVO, but people we are comparing apples to oranges, we are comparing $45,000 to $55,000 cars to a $30,000 to $35,000 car. I would certainly hope the more expensive cars were better built and so on, or BMW wouldn't be in business very long now would they? But now in the very near future we will be able to have a true apples to apples comparison and I wouldn't just assume one will be so much better than the other. But I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Couldnt have said it better myself. I dont understand why people compare Evo's to BMWs and Mercedes and the like. The only thing thats close is performance. So then they look at other things and say the Evo isnt as nice inside. Really? Thanks Einstein, I hadn't realized the interior of a Lancer isnt as comfortable as a 3 series. Its Just a Lancer. A Lancer designed to go fast and just happens to go as fast ( if not most times faster ) than cars in a much higher price range. But thats like saying a Nextel Cup Monte Carlo and a Ferrari F1 are similar because they can both go over 200mph. Would you really make a comparison between those two? No. They're designed to do things at complete opposite ends of the spectrum and happen to share a common factor of being fast. So you have to buy what you think you want more.

3000ways - you rock!

Last car company that went downstream in pricerange was Jaguar with the X-Type. I believe it's gotten some of the worst reviews in it's class every production year in terms of build quality. haha. (no Ford pokes here).

Btw, whoever said an IS350 is in the 30-40k range apparently hasn't priced one.

I'm working in France right now and the BWM 1-series is very nice. The Jag X-type or whatever isn't even in the same class performance wise.

Okay, so why all the 'comparions' between the 135 and the Evo? They'll be in roughly the same price range, and BMW's brand image has always been high performance luxury vehicles. If you think about BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura, Audi, Infiniti, 95% of you will say that BMW is the most performance oriented. Okay, now that I have that out of the way, the choice between the Evo X and 135 will come down to the main use of the car.

Before I got my Evo, I was also cross shopping the G35. I drove a friends G35 coupe and it's a damn nice car that's handles pretty well and is decently fast. But you know what? It won't hold up to a track day without some serious mods. With the Evo, I just put on some race pads, flush the brake fluid, dump in some higher octance gas (because Cali sucks!) to be safe, and beat the hell out of the car without a worry. Won't have to worry about brake fade or overheating.

Take a G35 out? Well, it'll probably roast the brakes and overheat. Not to mention, the stock suspension isn't close to where I'd want it to be and it'd need better tires. Evo? I'm content with the stock suspension for track duty and the tires are obviously fine.

So, my initial impression is that the Evo X should be essentially track ready out of the box whereas the 135 will require upgrades (brakes, suspension, tires, cooling). Pretty much the ONLY BMW I'd consider track ready straight off the dealer lot is a M3. So for roughly the same price, you can get a 'nicer' car or one you can take straight to the track.

if i didnt have an Evo already, most definitely the X

but since i do, it would be nice to switch it up with a 135i

why have two dedicated performance cars when you can have one performance and one sport luxury
