Atom, GT2?

My dad and I are adding another car to the collection and i think it has come downt to the new GT2 and the Atom. Does anyone know what the deal with the atom is, is it legal in the US? Also which one would you pick?

Hmm... depends on what you're going to do with the car. If it's purely a track toy, Atom. If you're actually going to drive it regularly on the streets and go to the store with it, GT2.

For the Atom:

Have them import the engine and the frame separately, install the motor here, and call it a kit car

Seriously though, there is a company called I think Brammo and they import them and can make them street legal. I have seen a few with plates out here in Cali on the streets, and if they are legal here then they are probably legal anywhere.

As far as I know, the Honda engine with the blower is the way to go, if you have the stones. I think they also offer a GM sourced motor, but the Honda is supposed to be better.

Never driven one myself though, so it is all hearsay at this point.

I almost forgot, the Brammo guys do track days every once in a while, and I think the fees can be applied to the Atom if you decide to buy it after. I would definitely try before you buy with something like this.

Yea we have a carrrera GT, 760li, supercharged range rover, and my evo. I think right now i think we will end with the atom, just out of pure fun. It would be a track car and just weekend driver.

Get the atom - I would like the V3 with the CTR motor. If you can pull that off, go for it - Get the engine shipped seperately and call it a kit car...I know the ecotec motor is pretty good - but I would do the Honda motor if I had the money. Contact Brammo

In Europe, it comes with the Honda k20 with an optional centfrigul blower. In the US, Brammo is licensed to build the car from the European company and it's actually a little different than the European model; it's wider for fat american asses. Also, it comes with the ecotec with an optional roots blower.

I'd try to source the the K20 and build it for some boost. A GT2871 pushing 350-400whp would be fun

Something else to consider though is the KTM Xbow.... comes with the Audi/VW 2.0L turbo motor pushing ~240hp I think.

I looked into the Atom, the price on it quickly exceeds 70K when putting it together. As its a kit car laws will vary from state to state as far as making it street legal. In IL my understanding is that it has to be assembled by the owner(can't be delivered as a chassis and motor). Have you checked out the T-rex?

I have looked into the T-rex but I feel that the atom is a superior machine. I am going to contact Brammo and see what they can do.

I do agree with you. The T-rex however is a motorcycle so its fifty state legal. if you go to the US atoms forums they have lists of attorneys used to help people get them legalized for street use. You should contact one of them prior to pulling the trigger to see if you get it titled in your state if you can drive it into neighboring states.
