Porsche Cayenne S - saw one today
Anybody had a chance to test drive / ride in one of these Porsche SUVs yet?
I saw one cruising down I-66 near my house today. I was a bit disappointed with its exterior appearance -- it wasn't very Porsche-like (or distinctive in any way) to me. It's shape reminded me of the Infiniti FX45. And looking at the specs between the two, the Infiniti has a better power/weight ratio, weighs 650 pounds less, has higher peak torque, larger cargo capacity, more front head and leg room, and it's at least $12K cheaper than the Porsche...
I love Porsches, but what am I missing here? The Porsche has a significantly larger towing capacity -- but I don't believe people are buying Cayennes to tow their boats around...

My family test drove one. It was very nice. (once again im slvr's brother) so youll have to see what he thought of it. I think people like it because seeing as how we drove it on its premier date, we got lots of
's. Its pretty quick too, however if its quick your looking for get that beast of a Turbo. Its not like a lot of other porches seeing as how its an SUV..... kind of...... but its still a Porsche. Well I liked it. And for the Cayenne Turbo?

The Cayenne Turbo is in a league of its own... It's way out of my price league and with 450 HP in a 5192 pound vehicle, it's got a better power/weight ratio than my Evo. I can't afford it, and probably wouldn't buy it if I could, but I can understand the allure of a turbo V8 powered SUV which outhustles a lot of sports cars -- even better if it has a fair dose of that Porsche handling...
Although there was that Lingenfelter-tuned Suburban I read about years ago which did the 1/4 mile in the high 12's on street tires.
Just don't try to turn it.

My wife just traded her Jeep in on the "poor womans Cayenne Turbo", the Subaru Forester XT2.5.

"The force-fed flat-four's combination of torque, gearing, and weight will get you a blazing 0-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds and a quarter-mile of 13.8 seconds at 97 mph, just 0.3 second slower than an $89,665 Porsche Cayenne Turbo"

Even though I don't like the look of the Forester 2.5XT I am definitely amazed at the numbers that it puts up with 210 bhp and 235 lb-ft torque. Whoever buys that is going to be surprising a lot of people at stoplights.
I actually had a guy in a Cayenne Turbo roll up and challange me in my EVO today when I was leaving DC on the Clara Barton PKWAY. I took him but man that thing was quick and I think he was afraid to push it like I was . I think it was his parents because he was pretty young.
baaaaaah to the Cayenne, everyone and their dad in my neighbor hood has bought one now---first it was the M-class Mercedez, then they got the Escalades, now they have all gone with the Cayenne. Its just a status symbol.
