Best year for the E36 M3 would be the 99 I believe. I'm pretty sure its more reliable than the 300zx but the catch is that parts are alot more expensive when something eventually goes wrong. You'll go through alot more brake pads with the M3 cuz it makes u drive spiritedly.

Buy a camry or honda if you want a reliable daily driver. No speed but it will last you a long time and get good gas mileage.

E36 M3 ftw! 99 is the best year, but the most expensive; if i remember correctly stay away from 95's. I don't remember any distinguishable difference with the 300zx's, i seem to remember pulling it up on wikipedia and seeing a lot of small changes every year.

99 is the last model year for E36 M3. I'm not sure about the 95's problems but I can tell you that some E36 M3s are 4 doors. I rode in one and it wasn't nearly as fun as the coupe. BTW I DD my beater, which is a 2007 Hyundai Elantra while my evo stays nestled in the garage. Great gas mileage. Gets NO attention from cops (or anyone else for that matter ) and pretty nice inside with CRUISE CONTROL and a decent gauge cluster. Fully laced out it cost me less than what I paid for mods to my IX.

Actually if you plan on modding a E36 M3 I think the 95 is the best to get. They take more kindly to the mods, ie euro TB, euro mass air, Dinan intake and download. They run harder not sure if thats due to it being a 3.0 vs 3.2 or what just know they run. Also 95 has no TC, that can go either way, just depends on what you like.
99 is the last production year, not sure if that makes it "better" than the others.

Sorry to get off topic...
