Is it expensive to paint a car Matte-Black?

I was wondering because this paint is growing on me big time. It seems like it'd be a cheap paint job but for some reason I doubt it is. This can make a car look like a million bucks IMO. I saw the Project WRX .08 or whatever with it, totally turned the new WRX around IMO.

my friend is getting his GTI professionally painted by someone really reputable and apparently he's paying $3000... which I think is ridiculous. I thought you could get a decent one for $500.

More feedback?

if done right it costs the same as any other paint job. there is actually almost nothing different then a normal paint job. The clear has a matte/satin chemical in it.
you still have to sand, primer, sand, base coat, clear it.
The mercedes at SEMA that everyone has been putting up on the web cost $30k to do!! not a cheap paint if you want it done and not look like primer

Well I wondered about snow or something, if it would scratch... seems like it'd show flaws alot easier.

I don't think you can get a decent paint job for $500 maybe $1000-1500.

i work in a professional high class body shop and the average all over paint job is roughly 4000 dollars not including door jambs or anything. the only reason it cost so much is to take out handles and moldings/mirrors ect..for overspray and good paint lay. If you did all that labor yourself and prepped it and got ready for paint. a decent paint job would run you 1000-1500.

Flat-black which you see on alot of cars nowadays, is called satin-black or spray-bomb which we like to call it in the shop. The good spray is roughly 15$ dollars a can. To paint a whole evo with that it would cost rougly 200-300.

Theres alot of local paintshops called like maaco. they do ****ty prep jobs and paint starts peeling after a year or two. and they tape up everything. They charge rougly 300-500 for an all over paint job.

Hope this helps.

3000 is only redicoulous if you preped the car yourself for painting. Also is he getting the engine bay painted also for that price? Time and effort cost money and so does quality paint.

It'd cost me about $6K to do a full paint job on a car where I live and that's if they'll even do it.
