Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Basically, I want a Suv/truck, something that I can go anywhere in, that gets good gas mileage. This is what I had in mind, it doenst have a powerfull engine, but in a jeep its really not needed. With the 6 speed manual trans it gets over 21mpg on the highway, which is the best ive seen on and suv/truck, that can actually offroad. What do you guys think. I like the unlimited because its acually alot bigger, so I could put more stuff inside of it. Any other sugestions. Every other truck ive looked at got at best 16mpg, which I just cant handle doing.

Jeeps rarely match their EPA mileage.

How much off-roading do you really plan on doing?

My 2003 Jeep Wrangler only got around 16-19 miler per gallon on the highway when new. Since the 6" lift 456 gears and the 35's I am only getting 12-15 miles per gallon on the highway.

i have a automatic 2006 jeep unlimited stock and it gets horrible gas mileage. i get around 225 miles on a 19 gallon tank. that's like 12 miles per gallon. i wouldn't get a jeep if you are worried at mpg.

great truck. i had an '05, but i agree with everyone else. there is no way you'll get 21mpg unless you're going 35 in 6th with the top up and the a/c off. don't buy one if gas mileage is your thing. what about a honda ridgeline? i'm not a fan, but it may meet your requirements better than the jeep.

Hmmm, reading all the reviews about the unlimited, most reviews said they netted about 20mpg combo city/highway.

Driven as a car in the situations legal-z mentioned, I believe it.

Driven as "real" Jeep Wrangler drivers do, I don't. Especially if you're serious about off-roading. Bigger tires, lift kits, major gear reductions, winches, skid plates, etc all add a lot of weight and drag. IMO if you are serious about off-roading, buy an older Wrangler and don't DD it. If you just want a truck to play in the mud once in a while the Unlimited will probably be OK.

get a wrangler, they are amazing JEEPS (they are NOT cars).

mines the one on the left (yellow) and my friends is on the right (green) mines a 04, his is a 06 65th aniversery. right now their stock but this sumer we are (or me at least ) going with a mild lift(2-3 inches), and 33 inch tires. for a jeep that will be mostly DDed you dont need any bigger than 33s. the new JKs are great. alot better, and safer than a tj. if you are concerned about gas mileage and what not, and your willing to wait a little while, wait for the diesel wrangler to come out. once the ULSD comes out, i bet diesel prices can drop below gas, and the jeeps CRD would get pretty good mileage. i mean ****, i get 16 all city now. so its not that bad.

Yea I think my minds made up. I just test drove a brand new unlimited, and I have to say its really nice. It had the 6 speed and the navi. Jeep for sure improved the interior a whole hell of alot. Its not a box on wheels like other jeeps. It actually has sound deadining, and power windows, and locks. It had a confortable ride, the ride wasnt that harsh. I was speaking with my buddy who lives in northern cali, he has a 07 unlimited, and says if he skips shifts, and keeps the rpms down he get over 21mpg. Which is awsome. I have to say that the new v6 engine, does lack some power, but hey Its a jeep doesnt need big hp. I am going to go this week some time and see what kind of pricing they will give me. I hope they decide to give me a killer price because auto sales are down, and I know first had dealerships are hurtin

if you can, get dual tops and power windows. it helps the resale value alot

I bought my 07 Jeep brand new back in September. Up until 6-7k miles on the odometer I was getting about 16-17mpg city/hwy. Now I'm right over 9k miles and I'm starting to see better gas mileage. I do mostly city driving and I'm averaging a little over 17mpg and about 19-20mpg on the highway.
