Suggestions for a cheap daily beater
Gas prices are ridiculous right now and I keep hearing its supposed to get worse come summer. My new job will require alot of city driving and my ralliart just doesnt get the greatest mileage. I have a few cars in mind but would like more options. Here what I'm looking for-
*35-40+ miles a gallon
*very reliable, cheap to fix
*no more than 9-10 years old
*cost no more than $3-4k
*must have ac, power locks and radio
My mechanic actually has a 99-00(?) Civic sitting at his garage. I don't know what model or engine it is but it looks to be in really good shape. It does have 170k on the clock tho. He wants about $2,800 for it. Is this a good deal? Help me out guys.

get some kind of toyota because those things last 4ever but hondas are good to when it comes to reliability. if i was u i would look around first and see if u can get a toyota yaris for cheap and if not get the honda. or if u want something new i would get a smart car lol

can't beat a little 1.5 honda. cheap reliable and good gas milage. BTW 2800 for 2000 ain't to bad. To be honest I don't even look at the milage for a DD beater, just make sure that before you buy it check the engine oil and if you get it just make sure you have everything up to date, engine oil, tranny oil, spark plugs ect. doesn't hurt to sometimes use 93oct gas to clean injectors.

the 1.5l only come in the 92-95 models which might be a little too old (unless i can find one in really good shape). the 1.6l should be alright right? btw, how much difference does vtec make?

I'll probably get flamed for this lol, but my DD is a 99 DOHC 5-speed Dodge Neon Highline (basically an R/T w/o rear disks and cosmetics) . I paid $900 for it cash with 116k miles on it. When I bought the car I did a routine tune-up for piece of mind, other than that and changing out the alternator ($80, easy to do by yourself) 8 months later I haven't had a single problem yet. I get on average 30mpg on the freeway and around 26 mixed driving and spend about $26 to fill it up using 87 octane.
The best part is for what it is, it's pretty peppy and handles pretty good.
