Thumbs down Honda radio code...

We put a new battery in my old accord and now the radio doesn't work. It asks for a code. So I went online to my old honda forum and everyone says you need to give your VIN# to dealership and they will give you your code.

I just found out that the stealership wants 90$ for the code!
It should be free! Going to try another dealership.

I've been able to get the code twice for free when I lived in cali. That sucks, definitely try a different dealer.

what year is the honda?? check in the glove box for a white sticker with numbers on it or under the fuse box cover in engine compartment. some models/years have it in there. they want $90.00 to pull your radio out and run the serial number on the radio to get the code.

2000 Honda Accord. My brother actually drives it so I left it up to him. I asked if he would pay it and he said "Hell no! It's not my car" How ungrateful.

yeah, those years it might be a sticker in the glove box or fuse box cover if the dealer didnt take them off before they sold it.

those radios are not too hard to pull out. 2 screws underneath radio above cubby, pop out clock, 1 screw behind it. then just pop out the dash piece. and actuall you may be able to see the serial number without pulling out the radio but not it is only 4 screws holding it in.

Hope this helps a bit.

Even with the serial number, do you guys think they will give me the code free of charge?

They should. I lost the code for my Integra and took out my battery the other day (d'oh!), so I called the dealer and they said it is free.

What I suggest is, get the serial number (it should be on the top of the radio and it says "SERIAL NUMBER: XXXXX:"), write it down, then take the car to the dealership. They need to confirm the radio belongs to the car since it's an anti-theft feature. Once they do, they should give you the code free of charge. Hope I helped.
