135i and 335xi Test Drive

Well, I have been seriously thinking about buying the new 135i or the 335i lately.

So I went the BMW dealership in Bpt, CT (dont go there, they treated me like ****). Anyways, they didnt have any manual 135s so i took the auto for a ride. honestly the car runs GREAT...but man, the car is tiny. If you are any taller than 5' you are not fitting in the back of this thing. So i opened her up a little and the car has ALOT of potential.

SO then today i go to the BMW dealership in Ridgefield CT (highly recommend them). The guy gave me the keys to a 335xi manual and said have fun. I beat on this thing pretty good, and honestly, i was NOT impressed. i mean the car is nice, all the goodies, put, no where need as far as to drive. i now that the 335i has a different suspension, and the 135i has the brembo brakes, but after today, I am sure that I am not trading my EVO for anything. especially after putting down 377 awhp today on a dyno dynamics dyno at 22psi.

I will tell you one thing, they had a Alpina B7 on the showroom floor....HOLY****...that car is sick. Had a 4.4 V8 supercharged with a price tag of 120K. They only get one of those cars a year.

So if you are looking to buy a BMW in CT or NY, I highly reccomend Ridgefield, CT.

135i has brembo? I thought it was just 6 piston bmw brakes and 4 for the rear.

they are bmw brand...but i meant like "brembo-like" style...however, the salesman did say brembo...either way they are 6 piston in front and 4 in rear.

Thanks for posting. I would really like to read some other people's thoughts on the comparison between the evo X, 135i, and the 335xi. They all have different things going for them, but they are all a little bit different.

The brembo brake word came from an unexperience salesman that tried to impressed the customer. Never the less the BMW 135i actually brakes as good as a Evo with the Brembos(just check any magazine), we are talking about one or two feet more/less.

There is actually already a road test/comparo done on the Evo X vs STI vs 335XI. On that particulat test the 335i excelled in acceleration times by far but then the softer suspension was better suited for comfort rather than performance.
On the braking department all 3 cars were close.

As far is the 135i, same of the same but with even better acceleration and slighty better brakes than the 335i but again the suspension is a com promise of comfort and performance.

SuperchargerGTZ, what was it about the 335XI that did not float your boat?. Having a 377whp Evo(You) off course a 335XI will feel a bit slower. What excatly dissapointed you?

well some of that...but honestly...it shifted sloppy...and the salesman tried telling how bad turbo lag is and how the 335xi had none.....then i offered to take him a ride in my wip...he almost **** himself....again, the bmw 135i is a GREAT car....but i just love my evo so much i just cant part it. it has 73K on it, and I take such great care of it, that it looks brand new. I have kept every invoice, service record, all fuel mileage....i just cant let it go. dont get me wrong...i think mitsu sucks, but they did right with our cars....well for some of us that is.

on a side note, when i left, i freakin ripped out of the dealership lot just to give all of them a real acknoledgement of the evo.....my gf was pissed...she said..."why do you have to be THAT guy"...my response was...."CAUSE I AM"...haha

its funny cause the salesman said when i first rolled up...he asked me if it was an 07.....that how good of shape my car is in. then he killed me and called it a lancer...i quickly corrected him. ....LONG LIVE THE EVO

also....i wanted a manual 135i but there seems to be none around so i test drove a manual 335xi....they didnt have a manual 335i (rear wheel drive) so i know that it will be a little different. but i get the idea. STICK with your EVO. if you like the status...get a "bimmer" but if you want to see the look on a porsche drivers face with his 20 year old gf say WTF when you blow by them.....stay with your EVO. again, the salesman tried selling me on how bad turbo lag and he asked me "how i could possibly like it" then i took him for a ride in my car......he was shocked

EVO power....btw.....on the same dyno today, i put down 377 on 93 pump when an sti with full built motor, with alky, and 35gtr, shep tranny, put down 500. granted its more power and he would smoke me, but.....i have not even spent have the money he has. his son was in there with his evo installing a HTA 35r buschur on an evo 9. his sons car is going to smoke is ***.

I had the exact same feeling when I test drove a Steptronic 335Xi: great car, superb quality, very quick, but...

After reading all the posts from e90post.com (BMW fan site,) regarding how superior the 335 was (compared to the Evo,) plus all the youtube videos showing 335s destroying modified Evos. , I expected out-of-this-world-neck-snapping acceleration. Well, after a few runs I was like "yeah whatever", even my wife said "wasn't this car supposed to be faster than a bolt-on Evo like yours"?

Even though we were not impressed at all with the 335s performance, we will be ordering one next Christmas. It's a fantastic car nevertheless.

Honestly, I wouldn't go to a dealership that I know lets people beat on the cars like that. I'd rather buy a car I know that someone hasn't test-driven into the ground.

If you wanted a 135i you'd have to order one anyway. There are only a handful of allocations in the entire country that aren't already sold to a customer. The only way you're going to walk onto a lot and buy one is if you buy the demo unit. And that would be stupid as those get beat to hell by anyone and everyone who wants to take a test drive.

I know all this because I am currently waiting for my 135i to come in and an active member of the 1addicts forum. I was originally going to buy a Evo X MR, but it kept getting delayed so finally I got fed up and bought the 135i instead. It's is a little more expensive then the Evo X MR but you get a lot more luxury for your money. So it's pretty much a wash if you like those sorts of things. (i.e. power seats, heated leather, auto dimming mirrors, head lights that point where you steer, integrated iPod support, etc...)

Regarding your your 377whp on a Dyno Dynamics... is this at "The Shop" in CT? Because those numbers are scaled to DynoJet levels... it's misleading if you advertise them as such, since the two have as much as a 15% difference. My guess is you'd read about 50whp less on a real Dyno Dynamics.

Sounds like you should keep the Evo and if you really want to go head snapping fast get a 03-04 Terminator and put a bit of mods on it. and then you'll really be happy.

Even less on a Mustang.
