Best new car beater?

My gf wants to sale her 2001 is300 and buy something that gets better gas mileage and newer. She wants to spend the least possible like 15k or something. I'm also guessing that insurance will be cheaper which is a plus. Any ideas?

I thought of the Honda Fit but the newer ones don't come out till later.

Here's the is:

what does everyone think about the 06 Audi a3, I know it's a bit more but used ones can be found at decent prices. I think it looks good and it claims to get 25/31 for gas mileage but uses premium. Gots to 2.0t and dsg!

go with the fit, they're quite nice. Wait for the 09 to come out then get a deal on an 08.

Not many new options for that price.

Honda Fit
Toyota Yaris
Kia Rio
Chevy Aveo
Hyundai Accent or Elantra
Ford Focus (absolute base model)
Mitsubishi Lancer (base, no options, gas mileage less than impressive)

Personally, I'd go for the Fit.

But the new Fit's interior is nice with the navi and everything.

Rather get an Integra. But I shall ask her. I wanted her to get an a3 but she says it's too much. And the Honda fit and Yaris insurance is the same as her IS300 lol.

What???? Those car as much to insure as the IS? The IS is almost as much as our Evo's for insurance. I would have thought the Fit or Yaris would be dirt cheap. Then again most Acuras are stolen alot and insurance is high on those as well.
