I went to the MAzda Dealership to check out the new mazdaspeed protege. It was a great car for a great price. I am still very interested in the EVO, but I checked out the mazdaspeed and the Mazda salesman was very rude and pushy. And he said something that Was very very suspect.... "The mazdaspeed protege was tested against the STI and the EVO and it beat both of them in the slalom according to an automag." I, of course, was very surprised. I don't remember which magazine he said, i think it was car and driver or something not sure, but he said it!

Any thoughts????

 

He's full of ****t and you should have called them out. GO to a subie dealer and they'll tell you that their STi beat the EVO in all categories in all magazines. We, of course, know the truth, and they CAN"T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

taht's sounds like they just want you to buy the freaking car ... oh and a lie too. the evo does the 600ft slalom or whatever @ like what 71-72mph?

 

STI beat the EVO in all categories?....I think u mean the EVO beat the STI overall....

BUT the Saleperson...he looked like one of the typical sleezy salesmen with the greasy hair but younger and he said the Mazdaspeed outperformed both the EVO and STI in handling categories...specifically pointing out the slalom....

 

Oh, and let me add, that the mazdaspeed is an awesome car for the price...the handling did impress me....but then again, to outperform an EVO and STI sounds ridiculous....

actually... in the slalom the mazdaspeed protege does VERY VERY VERY well. you don't need high-hp or AWD to do well in the slalom. Just a competent chassis and suspension. The MSP has both of those things. I would say, just in terms of the way the chassis and suspension was done on that car, it isn't unrealistic to say the car will do as well as, or even beat an evo in the slalom. Slalom numbers aren't everything though. Slalom numbers typically favor very stable cars, as do lane change maneuvers, but too much stability can hinder performance. I don't doubt that the evo has better handling, and higher thresholds for cornering and grip, but I also don't doubt that it is possible for the MSP to do better on a slalom course. Alot of people are saying these days that the MSP and MP3 could give the Integra Type R a serious run for its money in the handling department, and Type Rs are no joke. I don't think they should be underestimated. It deserves respect...
