2008 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Survey
That survey is stupid and I certainly question the methods. How can you have 120 problems per 100 vehicles at the top? What defines a problem? There is no way Honda is just above Jaguar.
Whoa, Land Rover isn't just gradually worse than the rest...that's a big jump from 302 to 344. I always thought they were good since they are one of those "up there" SUV's. ("Up there" in terms of cost).
That's exactly what I thought, "How the hell is Jaguar that high up on any list with the word reliability included?" -lol. Same with Benz, not a single model is recommended by Consumer Reports due to unreliability, yet they don't look that bad on this list.
I think mitsu is not counting all the problems the evo 10 had and will have in few more months down the road as they sell more and more.
I mean comeon that one guy broke the gas pedal 2 times at the track yes the gas pedal. I went to go sit in one i put my hand on the plastic piece on the seat moved it about a 1in and it cracked. I said you want me to buy a car with theses kinda problems. Cutting coners is not the way to go as alot of automakers are doing it to cut cost.

If this list were perfect, they would have the same person own every car for three years and report the results.
The reason there are some disparities and eyebrow raisers is because owners are so different.
A typical Jaguar owner will be much easier on a car, hardly ever seeing 4k rpm, and always doing proper preventative maintenance. Now compare that to a younger person driving a Scion tC who tears the car up and hardly does maintenance and you can see how much influence the driver demographics have on this survey.

At least that's how I read it.
