Ring record broken, yet again
I'm glad I got on the ACR bandwagon when I did. Dealers and private sellers might try to use this to jack up prices.

But, to put it in context, if you want the best track car, buy the ACR. If you like to have a few luxuries, buy the GTR or ZR1. You'll notice that the ACR that set the record had the hardcore package (no radio/speakers, removed trunkliner, removed hood pad, etc.). Might be tough to live with for just cruising around. The ACR also destroyed other high performance cars in this Motor Trend article. It beat the next best time by about 5 seconds, but it did not get the subjective score due to the learning curve you can expect when you try to drive this car at its limits.

I'm going to love slowly trying to tame this beast.

Starts around $101,000 MSRP. But I have seen a few posts from at least one avid Viper fan that says he got his at invoice. But he's a real baller who buys a new Viper every year and gives the dealerships plenty of money for service. I'm not sure what invoice is. I need to look it up.
At $98,110, the Viper ACR is priced neatly between two of the best track-rats in the business, the new $65,815 Lotus Exige S 240 and the $124,060 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. It's bigger and heavier than both, but it shares their utter commitment to steering and braking, corning grip and driver involvement. Bring on Sunday!

That 98K price came in a little low. That is an older article. I don't think you can get one for less than 100K when you figure in destination charges. But, you can build one on Dodge's website and find out for sure.
It looks like invoice for a regular Viper coupe is about 7K less than MSRP. I imagine that the difference would be about 7-10K on the ACR.

I am fully understanding that the ACR is absolutely rediculous from a performance standpoint.
BUT. As a street car, it's the most impractical supercar on the market.
I'd happily take many other cars over the ACR and give up some performance to be able to save my spine and also be able to make a road trip semi comfortabily.
Unless i was buying a car for track days only......i would never even consider the ACR.
For a street car......with the same motor.......Regular Viper FTW.

Looking at the competition, the ZR1 is actually more comfortable than the Z06. But, at the moment, the lowest price I have seen on one is 145K. It would be nice if the huge markups go away before the ZR1 is scrapped due to fuel economy regulations.

The word is that right at 200 were made for 2008. It is available again for 2009 and orders are being placed now. It may not make it back for 2010. The Viper lineup might not make it past 2011. But, then again, many high performance cars are probably going extinct in the next five years.

The GTR guys say anyone that holds the record at the ring at the time of them making the car they want to beat it by 2 seconds so no one will ever question them ever again. Thats what was said on the japan GTR forums
