Ironically I was intrigued when I first saw this car on the magazines, it was promising on numbers, big power, proven powerplant a whooping 150hp increase over the last Cobra etc, etc. Ladies and gentleman I am referring to the Shelby GT500KR .

In my opinion this car epitomize the opposite of a supercar, it is expensive, it weights too much, it rolls excessively,it does slow on the 1/4 mile, it doesn't brake/stop that well , it is slow on slalom and worse of all it cost way too much $82000.

You can technically out perform this car with a Evo and minor mods (maybe less than $1000). I think the Shelby GT500 KR actually has a muscle car appeal but obviously is not on a supercar league, would you agree?

There are so many cars that actually out performs the Shelby for a fraction. At least they could put some rear flare fenders and put some decent fat tires in the back but I guess they did not care and the results are just dissapointing ..oh yeah and you also get a combined gas mileage of 15.3 mpg

i actually have a friend whose planning on getting one to go with his other mustangs (gt500, 04 saleen, 03 cobra) i told him to sell some of them but he just looks at me like im crazy...

 

The Z06 is a bada$$ car. It has the potential to make ANY car look bad. Only the true Mustang enthusiast will look pass that.

 

^^ Please don't get me wrong, I spent great time every evening looking at youtube, streetfire.net, tremek,top gear,dpc and al these great websites that have sports cars videos.

I am not picking on this car but it is such an underachiever for that price range that this car is perhaps one of the worst "sport car" or "supercar" in the market for that price range. It seem to me like after all the previous Terminator is a better choice.

I agree with you on this one. The GT500 might be a step up from previous Cobras etc. but it has clearly fallen behind in the Supercar world.

 

0-60 in 4.9 seconds? How sad for an 82k car. I didnt realize how expensive these were. Z06 > GT500 anyday.

 

There are a bunch of them around here in Reno. I see the same one almost everyday and he always tries to race me.

 

For what its worth these cars are putting out over 700 whp with minor mods. Not a super car though but...damn!

 

Well regardless if it's a cobra, Shelby, or Shelby 500KR. Underneath of it all, it's still just a Mustang, and do you know what mustang stands for?

I hear a true 5.0 light weight, and also the v-6 twin turbo.

I have always loves the body style of the Stangs.

............not to mention the Camaro, even that v-6 is at 306hp and 300lb./ft. for less than $25k.

Buying a Shelby is like women who buy LV handbag for $3,000. They buy it for the name.

 

By no means am I a Mustang fan.
On the same note, but not to that extreme you could say the same thing about the Evolution. Back it 1996-2000 the stock Evo was killing so many cars in stock form including the Skyline. Now it's sad to see the Cobalt beat it in some track tests.

 

Engine sounds nice though.
