2004 Mitsubishi Galant (Official Preview)

http://www.mitsubishicars.com/2004galant/home.html

not sure how i'm liking the looks. especially the front grill. WHAT DOES MITSUBISH HAVE AGAINST GOOD LOOKING GRILLS?!

anyhow, the specs seem pretty sweet. looks like we'll be sharing our new mivec engine with them (boo).

overall, tell us what you think.

FYI. the only pics are in the flash intro (at least that i kind find), and the release is scheduled for november 2003. what i'm wondering now, is that since i haven't really seen any offical new lancer releases, i think the ralliart might be released 2004 (as a 2005 model).

They said the 2004 Galant will be within our Mitsubishi dealerships this November of 2003.

Mitsubishi Motors will officially debut this Galant in the 2003 New York International Auto Show.

the rumor is for at least the midwest is late, late 03, early 04. Also, this galant will be a huge seller! HUGE!! It makes the diamante pretty obsolete, and zero reasons to keep it around. There are some good pictures of it on edmunds.com

gotta love edmunds.

anyhow, the galant looks like a blend of the new pontiac grand prix and the dodge stratus. not bad overall though.

That's one strange looking new Maxima. Glad to see they still retain a V6 option to keep it within the realm of the the other mid-sized V6 motors like the Accord. The output, just like the 3.0L engine though, is still to low to compete with the newer V6's in the Altima/Maxima and Accord, but still remains competitive with the Camry. Hopefully it'll out-torque them though with that much displacement!

ok so call me crazy so this will use the mivec 2.4 which is swapable into our normal lancer. it is also available in a v6, thus implying that a v6 swap may be possible? Just a thought.

Also would the tranny match up (since it appears to have a sportstronic type shifter?). So if the 2.4 is a swap and the tranny lines up could we just toss on the sportstronic shifter? hmmm.. thoughts.

Circular motion is neither circular nor motion.... Discuss.

i don't see why the V6 swap wouldn't be doable. talk about a NA beast of a lancer! 230hp, 250ftp, and that's STOCK!

Keep in the mind that V6 is HUGE. There would be nasty weight distribution issues as well as just basic fitment alone. Remember, the current Galant/Eclipse chassis is much bigger to facilitate a V6 whereas the the Lancer only needs to at most accomodate a large I4 or I4 with turbo. Don't get to far ahead of yourselves.
