09' WRX v. My Evo VIII

Im bored at work and was thinking about this:

So a buddy of mine is getting either a 06' STI or 09'WRX, he wants an 09' more and will most likely get that, I dont know why

So he believes that his 09' WRX will smoke my Evo VIII at the local drag strips and Autocross next season. What do you guys think? I know they got a huge power boost in 09' as well as suspenion, but i'm still not sure.

With the mods you have, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Regardless though, the 09 Rex is not something to sneeze at. It's pretty quick.

Who would you compare them to a stock Evo VIII?

There was an 7k off MSRP for the 2008 STI. What bother with the WRX?

Give me a break on the WRX, it only has 265hp at the crank (probably around 200hp at the wheels), even less then the STI. It'll need a turbo upgrade with everything else associated with it to beat your Evo.

I'll throw my .2c up front. The 09 WRX lay down some serious 0-60mph (4.7sec)and 1/4 mile times for its modest HP... you might like it or not. I think a 09 WRX and a 03 Evo stock for stock the Evo8 might be a hair faster.

Once modded the Evos is just in a different league but the new WRX is promising.

Recently a car magazine explained why the WRX equal the STI on aceleration and 1/4 mile, part was the 180lbs weight difference, the second part was the gear ratio.

I think you car will kill it. The 09 WRX is a definite improvement over the 09 but it's not some insanely fast car with super powers. Getting the 4.7 second 0-60 won't be easy, especially if you want the car to last. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the car starts to get modded though.

Just like any car, the driver will make the biggest impression.

It likely wasn't an 09 since parts aren't widely available yet.

Point taken!

I guess that'll give me an advantage in the beginning because he has an issue with adapting to different styles of drivetrain. He drives an 01' Camaro and he can drive that car really well for what it is, but he has a really hard time driving my Evo and my buddies' FWD's.

I look forward to next season!

If that WRX gets 3 runs the tranny will probably explode especially if he has a hard time driving AWD cars. I was looking at them before I sold my 07 STi and im pretty sure the transmission was untouched on the 09's
