Well proof is in the actual failures isn't it. I think even a Subaru fanboy like yourself must have come to the realization that the 08 stop-sell problem hasn't been corrected yet as 09's are failing at a greater rate.

I don't see a lot of value in a 5-60 time for a turbo car. It doesn't give a good indication of performance potential. Take a built 2.0 with a 42R and floor it going 5mph at <1000rpms and see what the 5-60 time is. Im guessing my wifes es300 would smoke it, lol.

 

The new WRX is a great improvement over what it was just a year prior, but fact is it should have been that way from the start. It's still, well, just a WRX. It reminds me of the SRT-4 or Cobalt SS, only people praise it because it's a Japanese car built from the lineage of a high performer, unlike the American counterparts.

I'm really not at all concerned with 'beating a WRX at a stoplight.' That's a good way to kill your clutch, get a ticket/arrested, get someone hurt. Bring both cars to a track, and see what happens.

 

We can only go by owners who post on NASOIC. We don't know how many regular non-posters are having the failures just as we don't know how many aren't. According to NASOIC members failures to non-failures are neck and neck. My guess is it's between 5 - 10% failures.

 

Well Subaru has sold how many WRXs? While yes it is true that not everyone who blows their motor is on NASIOC, not everyone who doesn't blow their motor is on NASIOC either and I bet that ratio is biased. People tend to look for answers when there is a problem, not when everything is running fine.

 

hey um ur forgeting that wrx isnt build to go over 320ish or itll just shatter your transmission

 

Actually the new transmission can easily handle that power and even the older WRXs are fine with 320 HP.

 

Interesting thread. I do agree with the earlier post that this is good for all. Regardless of "who can beat who"... Because eventually the Evo and STi will advance in performance to create more of a gap between the WRX and Ralliart.

 

From what i've seen on edmunds and a couple other website, i was under the impression that the STI and EVO X both do 4.5 in 0-60

All I can say, is that we the consumer are the winners right now.

You have $20-25k? Civic Si, MS3, Genesis Coupe, Cobalt SS
You have $25-30k? Ralliart, WRX, Evo X GSR
You have $30k-40k? EvoX, STi, 335i, 135i, G37, C6, etc.

It's a good time to be a car guy -- if you have the cash -- right now.

 

Hmm we sound like we own mustangs, my question is? Why do subaru owners hump the evom boards? I'll take a broken gas pedal and a slower straight line speed over blown engines and a chancy Sti wanna be!

 

BTW I've ran my X to the ground with a quarter tank of gas and she's yet to fail, once again the "almighty EVO" wages on!

 

I test drove a wrx before I got my x. It was a nice car and shifted pretty nice. why in the world are you guys arguing over ridiculous points? In the end i liked the evo more then the wrx and was OTD w/ a monthly payment $50+ cheaper then an '09 wrx that i wouldve had to wait a few weeks to get.

but who cares? get a car you like and drive it and quit acting like 5 year olds...

...ohh and I can't help myself but the wrx is just plain ugly - definitely more of a "cringe-r" then a head turner..
