2009 WRX quicker than EVO X and STi?

I just checked out the new Motor Trend and there was an article called 'cheap speed' or something. They discussed how the new 265hp WRX spanked the STi in accelaration - 0-60 in 4.7 sec. I believe numbers for the X and STi are in the low 5's.

Of course all around performance (handling, braking, etc.) will be better in the higher end models. But kind of sad that if you pull up to one at a stop light you'll be looking at his rear end - stock to stock.

I'm not sure how much they'll 'pump up the boost'. Considering from 2003 - 2009 horsepower has only gone from 271 to 290 or there abouts and weight has been packed on. Even a good dose of hp won't make up that gap.

I just thought it was interesting.

doesnt matter. I would still buy an evo over a wrx. Now i would buy the base wrx over the sti so i think it will hurt sti sales, maybe.

Get a flash or exhaust and it would own it on a stright line.

I don't care what magazine testing shows, there is no way a stock WRX is going to out-run any year Evo assuming its in good condition.

Only found this article http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...wrx/index.html
and it sates 2009 WRX is 0.5 slower than 2008 sti ?
I do not think Subaru will ever make next years wrx faster than last years sti same as Mitsubishi will never make the 2009 rallyart faster than a 2008 Evo. Just as a side peice when the rallyart was released here in New Zealand the very next day Subaru announced more HP for the WRX via a bigger turbo.

WRX - hp 265 tq 244 wt 3174
X - hp 291 tq 300 wt 3512

I don't think 26hp will overcome 338 lbs (even more with MR) weight disadvantage - although the huge tq advantage will help.

Oh, and your right, not any year as the stock 9's are quite a bit faster than the X's. I'm just talking about the X.

By the way, I'm an EVO fan. I've owned both EVO's and STi's and each have their pros and cons. Just stating an interesting fact.

Just read the car and driver article. I sit corrected.
P.S I was talking rallyart to evo not evo ix to evo x

I all so think Sabaru is raising the WRX bar as it is facing increased competition in that market and that is a wise move.

I read that Motortrend Article just now. The WRX seems to be the best buy. well atleast between the WRX and RA.

I love when blind bias overrules reason, logic, and facts. "I own an Evo so it must be faster than the new WRX"
