Watched an STi take a few pulls today

Welp, I was down at BM Tranny again dropping off my car and had a few hours to kill while waiting for my ride. At around 11ish a Blue STi drove passed followed by a black Explorer, a few moments later I guess he realized he'd missed the place because he was parked outside a minute later. The two guys were cool, shot the **** with them for a while, took a look at the STi, talked with the guy in the Explorer about his ITR, showed them my car and whatnot.

The STi's mods: GoFastBits BoV and swapped in a K&N panel filter after the first run.

First pull he put down like 245hp and 255ft/lbs. None too impressive, none too shameful.

Did another run with the K&N panel filter (he'd heard a rumor that someone LOST 5hp with one and wanted to test it for himself).

2nd run he put down about the same and Junior realized that the rubber house coupling the IC had bulged and popped off the clamp (which had also become loose). The TMIC (which was sprayed down with water between runs) became so hot that it literally steamed off the water spray at WOT. They tightened the coupling and went back at it. At stock boost it put down the most linear dyno plot I've seen in a long time, peaking and riding flat at just under 260hp and 260 lbs/ft. Not bad. He did one more pull with the boost slightly raised, but I think we all got a bit fearful of detonation. Between the heat generated (yes I realize that IC's are not very effective at a standstill even with a fan on them) and the already well known problem of STi detonation the boost didn't change much (.1 or .2 bar or thereabouts). He got about 20whp.

I was afraid the IC coupling was going to balloon and shoot flaming hot rubber into my face at a couple moments, but all in all a not-at-all-shabby visit to the dyno. Was neat seein' an STi put it all down.

Absolutely amazed at the lack of interest.

Was he experiencing any det? Had he gotten the det fix? If so, was there any loss in power?

IMO: magazines shouldn't sway someones decision over buying a car. And being a subaru owner, I personally think evo's are nasty, especially 6's.

since nasty is slang for "god damn cool", then I'd have to agree with ya. And the V and VI are probably the nastiest looking evos, just pure nasty

er I was acting like the typical 16 yr old OZ owner (and too many EVO owners) on this site. ya know the guys who say "might as well buy a mustang cobra" when people talk about the STi.

.....oh and I own a nice WRB/silvr STi. I open the garage door just to look at it standing there....my little blue bulldog.

Closest to the (short wheel base) Audi Sport Quattro I could find and afford. Car is just amazing

I'll try to remember to ask Mark when I got pick up my car. I think they're around mid 240's if I remember correctly, but I'd rather not misinform.
