Considering a 370z...

I suppose I am getting a bit older, and want more creature comforts in my ride. Also, I am thoroughly disgusted with Mitsubishi's service when I went in last time to the dealership for warranty work. The new Z looks great, and there is a lot more features that I like than my current IX, except for the AWD of course. I know the IX is more practical, but that is what the wife's '08 Outlander is for. Any thoughts or experiences from people who have driven the new 370z?

^^ I am very impressed with the initial reviews of the 370Z, It looks like this time they nailed .

It brakes even better than similar cars(Evo, STI), it handles .99G, it did a 4.7sec 0-60, it has good power(332hp) and is affordable (low 30's). I'd say go for a test drive and tell us how you like it.

Also, check the Edmunds comparo, they did a comparo: 370Z vs 135i

Already saw the Edmonds review. I'm jsut not sure if I am ready to give up the AWD. The 4 doors really doesn't matter too much to be honest, as me and the wife are still about 2-3 years out from having kids.

I know what you mean. The AWD is always nice to have.

I think its definitely worth taking a test drive. The performance numbers seem great for this car - but I'm curious if the driving experience is as good as the performance is...

Reviews like this seems to highlight some consistent nagging points of the car:
http://blogs.edmunds.com/strategies/...aper-club.html

But definintely try one out. Also to get all the gadgets, you're gonna want the touring/sport model which brings it close to $40k if you get nav. You probably already knew that though.

My girl has had a 350z since early 06 and she has been the first owner. I been driving it on and off since we been dating and I like the Z. I am no newcomer to Zs as my Brother in law had 2 300zs back in 91 and 93(both TwinTurbos) and I think like someone else said, Nissan did their homework and they improved on the 350 and the 370 definitely looks like a great car. I sat in a 370z about 1 month ago at a dealer and took a good 30 mins to check the car out. The car does not feel totally new to the 350 aesthetically but as far as the reviews so far it looks like theres a big improvement in terms of performance. Its abit lower, wider and shorter. I say if you gonna get one go for the Sports edition as it comes with the new auto syncro feature. The interior looks similar to the 350 with some improvements.
Nissans are reliable cars and my girl has had no issues with hers. Just be aware that they are gas guzzlers compared to our Evos and you will lose alot of space.
On the other hand they have some great modding capability and super aggressive wheel set ups

My only gripe is how they do not retain their value very well. My girls 06 has 24k miles and its only worth around 20k on the KBB for private seller. I will probably never buy another new car again unless I get a crazy finance deal like 0 percent. I think the smart thing to do is to is to wait til about late 09 or early 10 and see how they hold their value cause the current 350Z did not do well there. Good luck

So I was reading that they are releasing a 370zx model in Canada that is AWD... This might be the answer I am looking for if it comes to the US and doesnt detract from the performance too much.

Defiantly liking the 370 more than the 350 style wise anyway, haven't seen the insides or anything but like someone said the reviews are good thus far.

AWD makes it easy to go fast; you can just floor it powering out of a corner and not worry about swapping ends. But that's part of the fun with RWD Plus, you learn a lot better throttle control.

The throttle response on the Z's engine is amazing... and the huge powerband. If I could afford two cars, I'd have the practical one and something RWD. Since I can only afford one, the Evo is the most track ready practical car around, and just happens to be AWD. I would actually prefer RWD, but no such practical, track ready car exists.

Also on the 370Z, you can get it fitted with the Nismo oil and rear diff coolers straight from the dealer, and that's all you need to hit the track.

I'd wait until the Hyundai Genesis Coupe comes out; not necessarily to buy one but I think it will shake things up enough to bring more benefits to other cars in it's range. Just a thought.

aye, that genesis coupe is so badass, nissan just had to raise their lower flagship sportscar hp cause they can't have no hyundai kicking its ****, same for the mustang, added 15 hp or so. At 306 hp, weighing in like 3400lbs, not a bad ordeal with it. Way lighter than the mustang, dont know bout the z though. But a fully l oaded track edition genesis coupe costs as much as a base model z......... Plus I haven;t notice nissan put brownbows on their new z's yet.......... the hyndai gets 4 piston all round.

-The Genesis Coupe V6 weights more than the Z and has less output.
-I'm sure the Genesis won't be a poor handler, but there is no way it is going to pull 0.99g's on the skidpad like the Z does.
-Nissan's Z uses Akebono brakes, 4 piston front and 2 piston rear. Who cares that they aren't Brembos because they bring the Z to a halt from 60mph in only 101ft.

I haven't driven the new Z yet, but it looks awesome and has awesome performance. I wouldn't even think of buying a Genesis over a Z. The Z has been continually improved for 4 decades by a manufacturer that knows how to build a proper sports car. I'm sure the Genesis will perform admirably for its price, but there is no way I would consider it if I were in the market for a circa 30k RWD V6 sports car with the Z around.
