Not even close. The MR's SST trans is leaps and bounds ahead of conventional automatic transmissions. It sounds like Subaru put some technology into the trans, but it doesn't appear to be a Dual-Clutch DSG style transmission.

I meant concept wise, comfort and performance/DD. I know the MR has a dual clutch tranny.

The positive thing with a more conventional type auto tranny is that the upgrades will be easier to make and probably cheaper...

I am sure there is a market for this one too!

You would be surprised of the new automatic cars like on BMW, the auto shifts in 125miliseconds and is auto, it maintains the boost on shifts and it has paddle shifters and slap shifters, ultimately the auto BMW 335i acelerate better than its counter part 6 speed.

I know we are not talking about BMW here but I am using it as a reference. The old style slow transmission era is well over, many manufacturers make very competitive auto transmissions. I have a car in my garage that uses the DSG and is a cool feauture, I have another car that has 6 speeds and misses shifts and grinds ocasionally.

For this matter I give Subaru the benefit of the doubt because they might actually improved their auto transmission a whole lot and you never know..

By the way, I did test drive a Evo X MR (one of the first one in the country) and yes, it was excellent.

my .2c

im sry, i know im not even close to a pro driver, and no doubt they can shift faster than me, and having an auto could def be better for long trips, traffic etc...whatever...to me driving a sports car means driving stick. plenty of great f1 trannys out there (430 is great) but if i could ultimately choose, it would be manual all day every day. just my .02

being a former sti owner myself I have to say this really does make sense in terms of selling cars, but looks as though there are options to downgrade to standard calipers and might loose some of the fun with things like dccd.............good economic choice though
