Insurance agents eyes sparkle when they see "Lamborghini" compared to "Mazda" on the page and bring out their price-gouging pens.
Back to the original post, you are suggesting that people should rather drive a beater, save their money over time and eventually buying a Gallardo. My friend, obviously you haven't spent that much time in life. Saving up $160,000 isn't a very easy thing to do in this world. Insurance rates on brand-new exotic cars are also extremely ridiculous. You could buy a whole new other car with the money you are paying through insurance within a matter of years.
Also, exotic cars are definetely not for daily driving. You don't drive them in bad weather, you don't drive them in snow, you don't drive them to the mall. They also draw a lot of attention, especially from thieves and vandals. Most people who are fortunate enough to own exotics merely have them for weekend drivers or casual cars.
A tuned and modded Evolution can post supercar numbers and yet is normal enough to be an actual daily driver. But keep in mind, a lot of people are using their Evolutions for weekend driving only too!

Well, its just that the original poster of the thread suggested people save their money and buy an "old lambo" or something so I decided to mention insurance rates on exotics. Does your $1200 cover both RX-7s?

Take for instance a 1991 Lamborghini Diablo. That's a car that is almost 13 years old now.

, if it is correct (but i realize the site might not be completely accurate).
For me it is about having the whole package...and I think as you get older and mature you will find the same thing. I would much rather have a wife, 2 kids, 4500 sq ft house on a golf course, lake house, ski nautique, a good car for the wife, and an evo in the garage than just a 2000 sq ft house, wife, and a ferrari. If I can ever get to the point where I can have all of the above AND a ferrari, then so be it...but I'm not going to give up many of life's other enjoyments just to have a supercar.

Well it looks like the current owner is going to take $59K hit in under two years with less than 25 miles on it since then. Exotics take a huge hit if you actually drive them.
Exotics are generally pretty crappy cars.

Back when I was 24 I had a 94 NSX and was paying 394 a month insurance. Granted I had 3 speading tickets and a wreck on my record
. 394 plus 890 a month car payment. It pays to be a tech geek.

i don't think exotics are NOT for daily driving. okay, i would NOT drive a 90s lambo daily. tha's just asking for trouble. i, however, drive my porsche daily. and if i bought an evo, guess what? it will be my weekend toy. EVO that is. i know someone that drove modena daily. i suspect that gallardo would be a good daily drivers as well. and most of beverly hills folks probably don't worry about someone jacking their radio at night or while parked on rodeo drive.
do you wanna know a sickening fact about why so many exotics on the market have so few miles? weekend toy? maybe. how about if you had 7 exotics??? assuming you drive 12k a year, you will put less than 2k on each car!!! tha's one of the big reasons. i used to know a japanese billionaire guy(23) who had viper, diablo, jaguar, stealth tt(i heard he picked it up on whim while getting his viper oil changed), and some porsche. (he didn't have a single japanese car. probably had a boat load of GTRs waiting for him in his home in japan.) those cars were all pretty new when he got rid of it before going back to japan.
You have to mod Evo way beyond warranty to make it a supercar. it may be cool if done right. but it can also be trouble. evo can be made fast, but it will not intoxicate you like a ferrari v8 or flat six going WOT. just my .02
i think he's really saving up for his f40, since he didn't say enzo or murcielago

My opinions, sorry if they seem biased in anyway, i just get carried away when talknig aobut the EVO, and i dont even 0wn one yet. Dang money, ggrrrrr. In a few years, my time will come, damn money sucknig insurance, and college. h4x!
Maybe if I was a millionaire I'd purchase a super exotic. When you really think about it though, you will hardly drive them, damn with about 600hp thats not really that fun smoking every car on the road without competition.
Plus, several exotics are very uncomfortable to drive in. thats why you see so many for sale, people buy em and put like 1500miles in a year and decide that they suck, and go with ultra luxury, like a bentley or maybach.
I'm 21, graduating college in the spring, and have a little mouth to feed, it aint easy saving 160K so Instead I'm going to reward my hard work for these 4 years with an EVO.

yea i was thinkin some more about this stuff and i meani really like the exotic cars. but i was thinking, if i want performance and still want luxery why not get something like a E55 AMG benz? i mean 469 hp 512 lb ft of torque and 0-60 in 4.2...sound awfully good to me, and for around 75 k new and since iwouldnt be buying new....
. anyways, i can see all of your points coming across. i guess if i ever have the money i might get an exotic, until then i guess i will instead save for a cheaper and much more luxurious yet well performing car
