why the evo?

i got a question. i see that most of you guys are really into performance and thats awesome, so am i, but im wonderin one thing. some of you dudes got mad money, so why did you choose the evo? why didnt you save and save and save and just get an older lambo or some **** like that? cause i am really into cars and all but i was thinking, if i can get a beater for a long *** time and try to get a good job and work and work, i could get a porche or maybe a Lambo Gallardo(about 160k). you guys dont think those cars are sick, or do you want just raw performance with decent looks(not that the evo looks bad, not one bit actually) but i mean lambos and porches are just the top level(imho) of sexiness when it comes to cars.

It's funny when you mention your reasoning. Back when I made no money, I thought that I would just save and save and save and buy an amazing car when I actually made money.

The problem is that when you start making money your life becomes more complicated, and other things start costing money. You can definitely save for years but it takes a special kind of person to really do that year after year, and in the end, you decide to hell with it and to just buy a new car with a warranty that a bank will finance and that you can get insurance on.

Those Italians are a nightmare to maintain, and there's no community around them. If you buy a 30K evo, most of the other owners are going to be a lot like you and are going to be modding or just talking about their cars. There's nothing like that for Lamborghini or Ferrari because with those cars, it pays to keep them stock and the owners have other things to do (related to making money) than browse the forums all day. In the end, you realize that you want to do things like travel or settle down, and having a $160K car isn't worth the sacrifices you have to make elsewhere to drive it. I suppose if I left my girlfriend and moved back in my parents house, I could probably drive whatever the hell I wanted right now. But it's just not worth it.

Oh, and also I come from a car family where my Dad had cars like a Lotus Esprit and a 911 Carrera 4S. Those cars were great but the Evo attracts more attention than the 911 and the Esprit is just not a car you can drive everyday.

Also, I don't know how sexy people would find me if I was living with my parents and driving a Gallardo around...

i think he's really saving up for his f40, since he didn't say enzo or murcielago. some people just like older exotics.

i'm not sure if i qualify to answer your question as i am lucky to be driving a pcar. but i can offer another perspective.

Evo is a good car but it's not a supercar. don't believe the misconception that euro supercars break down all the time. it used to be true, but it's hardly true anymore. sure it costs more for oil change and maintenance. but it won't break like it did in 90s. diablo may break down a lot. but not ferrari modenas. i've seen them driven daily w/ no problem. i'm assuming gallardo will be a good daily drivier as well. and any porsche should be reliable enough for daily drive. even the cgt is made for street. but is it comfortable? probably not.

i think it's good to have dreams of owning exotic cars. but if you have to save for such long time that means probably you can't afford it. ownership of an expensive car is more than just the cost of the car. most of supercars drink mobil 1 like it's diet coke. and it costs a lot to maintain the cars. i went from eclipse gst to z06 and almost fell over when they told me it was 80 bucks for oil change. now, it's close to 260 for my pcar.

i want an Evo cuz i've always wanted one since i saw Evo VI in a rally. back then i didn't know that i will ever be in a porsche. i've been waiting so long for this car to make it to US. so, evo is in a way my dream car. and i want to realize my dream even though i have a "better" car.

sorry its just that it seemed like you were negative. most of the people that are negative say something and then leave those damned 3 periods which to me seem to always say "yea whatever man your an idiot". sorry man. anyways, thanks for the responses. yea well im only 17 right now so its not like im saving up or anything but i was just thinking. i like to think ahead. i can see where your gettin at about if i have to save so long then i prolly cant afford it. well see tho, maybe, mabye(most likely)not.

i didn't even get it. was it me that was being negative???

OCDwithEvo, i think it's great that you are thinking of these things at such young age. Evo would be a great car for you. but if that's too much, don't bother saving up, and get an SRT4 !!!(if that doesn't work, start w/ used or something) just buy the evo when you can, it's more important to ENJOY when you are still so young!!! remember, you can't buy your youth back no matter how much money you save!!!

From: Where ever my car takes me!
For me, if i had to save up for a $100k+ car, i would feel like i'm wasting my money. Don't get me wrong, i would jump at driving a porsche or ferrari or (insert any exotic car here). My whole thing is, if i'm going to be saving that kind of money, i'm sorry but the 1st place i'm going to be looking is a place to live. Buy some property, to me thats much more important than any car i could drive/own. Being 22 also plays a little part in that, i think that i have my priorities straight in life (i hope). the way i see it is as follows: house->family->then fun w/ any car. At this stage in life i really don't see myself driving a $60k+ car without a nice garage to park it in.

Anyways, enough of me rambling on, I gave my 2 cents.

I like having variety in my cars. Coming from a guy who bought two Evos, I know it's a contradiction. Yet, I'd rather have a car for a couple of years and try out a lot of different drivetrain layouts, makes, etc.. Than go out and buy a Z06 or Carrrera 4s and have to keep it for 40 months or more to make it affordable.

It's not too bad, I had a NSX at 22 and a Rx-7 TT at 19 and it was new.

P cars look like a frog and check this out www.nsxfiles.com he has a 355 and it's a POS and he says it. The NSX is better then the F cars. I looked at the 360 and have a friend who has 2 of them a 360F1 and a 360 challange car. 3 months waiting on a part? Come on man when you get them money to REALLY look at one tell me how good they are.
