BMW has gone Evo?
BMW has gone Evo?
It looks like future BMW will start to resemble Evo, powered by turbo 4-cyl engines. I hope 2010 Evo X comes with some big improvements. 290hp ain't gonna cut it for long.
BMW confirmed: New 4 Cylinder Turbo in Development
Rumormill: BMW working on twin-turbo four-cylinder?

^^^ PCAsupreme,
You don't need to worry about that. I grew up in Europe and I have seen absolutely every manufacturer making 2.0 liter turbos from back in the 80's(Lancia Themas,Lacia deltas integrales, ford Sierra cosworth,Peugeot 405 t16,renault 21 Turbos, Fiat Cromas, Alfa romeo 75 Turbos, Citroen Palas CX turbos) I could truly built a list(that is besides the point) but keep one thing straight, Mitsubishi always had the bull grabbed by the horn.
Thdere is nothing that BMW can bring to the table that Mitsubishi already don't have. We all know BMW is capable of making some sick N/A power but Mitsubishi always uses the same recipe of bigger turbo thicker block and bullet proof internals.
It is good to see some competition but in my opinion Mitsubishi has always been a leader on its own category(2 liter boosted engine). The one manufacturer that knows how to step on Mitsubishi toes is Audi, on this aspect Audi has a lot of experience on small displacement high output power.
Mitsubishi has the recipe for sucess. They could built a 3.0 l plus displacement engine turboed and shut all the mouths. I wouldn't worry too much about BMW, I would instead welcome the competition.
As per BMW, you shouldn't be surprised, they launched their 2002 ti turbo series more than 30 years ago while only Posche had a factory turbo car at the time. BMW has been dominating the racing championship in Europe with their Turbo diesel 1 series so they have the technology but Mitsubishi as I explained in the begining leads most of the manufacturers in the small displacement category.

I don't know, to me they should have made the Gsr as the rally spec, keeping it intact with the rules, and then make the MR as the big boy spec to compete with the gt-r and others, increasing the engine to about a 3.0L straight six cylinder twin turbo beast.
BMW should concentrate on fixing the fuel pump and wastegate problems on their current turbo engine. Would have liked a 335i but seeing too many people have those problems over and over again.
Trending Topics
Mitsubishi entire racing R&D is devoted to making a better 2.0L 4cyl turbo. They helped Hyundai get their act together and that favor was returned. Its not like they are splitting time with an entire M division supporting V10's, twin turbo I-6's, twin turbo V8's and on and on and on.
I'm not saying that BMW can't make a better engine, its just unlikely they'll make one that's better, as modable, cheaper and easier to work on then Mitsubishi can.

"cheaper" is the key. a bmw with the same performance (not just acceleration) as an X, along with 4 doors and a reasonably comfortable interior, is going to be a fair bit more expensive than the X I reckon
And the tuning companies will charge more because it is a BMW too
Performance wise, BMW could make a better car than the Evo with the same general layout but then again so could Mitsu if they really wanted to
