UPDATE: thought of another possibility.... purchase an extended warranty (as they advertise on Tv these days), fix whatever is covered under such warranty, and keep the car... looking into it

The '09 Butfors were not the best. I'd recommend a 2003 Khum Dahn

And to the OP: Sell it, that extended warranty thing isn't going to work, trust me, or it at least won't be worth it.

Any extended warranty worth its salt is not going to fix existing damage. Think about it, they'd be bankrupt in a year if they did. I could go to the junkyard and buy a $100 car and let the warranty company recondition it. No, they are wise to that game. Most either require an inspection by a dealer or they send out their own inspector.

And the TV ones are most likely just scam artists who don't cover anything.

^ spoke to several companies, as expected, not many want to warranty a car with 180k+ miles... however, some do. some require a 'pre-inspection', some dont (and dont even ask what condition your car is in). the best warranty i found is like this: it would run ~$2k (split into monthly payments), but would include coverage on all powertrain + electrical (with some exclusions), for 36months....

so, i decided to keep the car and do all the necessary maintenance.

I totally forgot about the mileage when I made that reply. All the warranties I've dealt with and sold won't cover a car with that many miles. I'm surprised you found one at all. I'd be vary of wary of one that claimed it did, especially for $2000. Which is relatively cheap for 36 months.

well the way they get u, is that 'not much is covered'. engine/trans, waterpump, starter, some hardware parts, and several electrical components... not much else

Yeah, there may only be 120 of these that came into the U.S., but there's less then 120 people that wants one. There's no demand for this car.

So what? You seem transfixed on this. It's still a depreciating asset that's going to wear and break and cost more money.

I think you just want to hold onto it so you can tell everyone that it's one of 120 cars imported to the US. You know what that means? You'll be the obnoxious guy who can't stop reminding people about a car they don't give a **** about.

Sell it and buy a Supra. No one obsesses over those.

again, its not that it needs "restoration". interior is perfect and exterior only has minor scuffs and chips (amazing for a 12y old car).... all thats needed is a whole lot of general maintenance, which is long overdue, cause neither i, nor the previous owner did a single thing in many many years....

so if it works out with the warranty, its a keeper
