99 3000GT VR4, good car/buy??

I saw a 99 VR4 with 37K for $24,000. I think this is a great buy. Does anyone know anything about these cars? I know there are some recalls on the 99 models. Can you also run car fax for me? Thanks!

I had a 95 VR-4 and it was very nice. I dont know what you drive right now but it is a very good performance car. It weighs alot, but has alot of gadgets. I prefer the EVO, but that is a good price. They were in the mid to high 40's new.

"fast little cars" ? yeah right that thing is a tank one of the heaviest sports cars ever made it weighs like 38-3900 lbs thats the curb weight. Forget the 3000gt pay 4k more and get an evo or hell pay 2k more and get a used evo.

little was not meant to describe the weight, i know they are heavy i had a 96 vr4, it was indeed a veritable tank however it was still quick and fun to drive.

I do agree withyou about spending a tad more and getting an evo however that was not the point of the post i believe.

If you plan on doing any aftermarket work you may want to look else where. I forgot to add that the parts are alot more.

Parts are hard to get ahold of , stock and aftermarket let alone ones that fit right. If you have time and money it would be a great project though. I have been close to buying one on several occasions but that is what sets me back, that any it took someone 4 months to find a tranny for one about 2 years ago. I can just imagine now. Cost was 5 grand!

This is the link. I'm sure one can negotiate even lower.

Damn why is a 99 VR4 so much CHEAPER than 98 SUPRA twin turbo. My friend was selling his 98 Supra twin turbo about the same milage as this but for 40G.

Because people selling supra's are damn crazy! Sure Fast and furious bumped up the resale big time, But it is still a car. I am well aware of the car's potential, but let's be honest, a 98 is 6 years old. Not to mention a 94. I would love to have one but i would perfer a newer ride. I bet when the rest of the new hot rods get rolling then the prices will fall.

because of the brand. but that would be a good price and it should be a good buy if the car has been maintained well. as close to stock the better to make sure it has not been driven hard. if you have so many aftermarket parts, the quality of the installs can be bad and should be of less value.

Check out the 3S (affectionate abbreviation for 3000GT/Stealth, oh how we love the DSM's) forums for more info. I lurked on them while I was considering using their twin SMF filter setup from HKS since the Lancer shares the same MAS adaptor. Problems I saw were with the active aero functions, oil leaks from strange places, and just longevity problems with such a complicated machine.
