Rattle Can Paint job for my old 1G

So, I know that SCC did a "how to" on the whole rattle can paintjob a while back, and I was curious if anyone has this, or perhaps a link to something that has similar instructions. I have no painting experience, and I know when people ask about this with regards to an Evo, people say it's not worth it, as it'll devalue the car, etc.

Well, this being a 1G that is damn near 20 years old I don't really care so much about value and/or looks... I mean, look at the pic of the car! It was black to begin with, but the paint is coming off in some spots. As you can see by the pine needles, I don't exactly keep the car in tip top shape when it comes to exterior appearance...

The car makes ~480 WHP, runs on E85, and is great at scaring the sh** out of people who don't know what it is. It's also fun when other much nicer cars can't even compare. Anyhow, the car is about go, not show, so I was wondering how difficult a rattle can job is and the best way to do it. Would a cheapass Maaco paintjob work for this, or would it make more sense to just do it myself? Any input is much appreciated! Thanks...

It's all in the prep work. You do a crappy job on prepping the surface, you will get sub par results. GL.

You can make a rattle job look professional. Just gotta do the right prep work, like Revvin said.

So.... sand it down, primer, etc..? I know zero about how to prep, but I know that's a big part of it.

Prepare to sand for hours upon hours if you don't have a really large air compressor.

It's not too hard to spray a car (even rattle can it) and make it look pretty good, as long as you have the right tools and you've done it before.

If you haven't, I suggest you find a friend nearby who knows what he's doing.
