Owning a Supercar

This is ment to be a general question. Owning a Supercar, a newer (2002-2008) Lamborghini in particular, what would be the regular maintanence costs? In particular oil changes, and other regular vehicle maintenece. This question is shot at those who actually have some experience with this. And please, no silly replies such as "well if you are asking then obviously you can't afford it."

Oil change is gonna run you like $300+

My brother's own a Modena 360 and that's what they pay. Personally I wouldn't even want a Gallardo unless I was filthy rich. My Evo as it sits now is faster than a stock Gallardo.

One of the issues you will run into is that the nearest Lamborghini dealer is in Vancouver. You will need to drive or ship your car 1200 km to get anything worked on.

My second hand knowledge of maintaining a late year Diablo is that routine maintenance is not TOO horrible. No worse than a 911 or similar exotic. I imagine the Murcielago would be slightly better. Where you will get beat up pretty hard is on repair/replacement of parts. Something small and seemingly innocent like a broken door mirror can cost upwards of $1000 CDN. And, again, you're dealing with the distance issue.

Hmm, I thought they built a Lamborghini dealership in Calgary. I figured that the oil changes sit in the $1000-1500 CDN range. The other maintenance is where it will be somewhat more expensive? This would not be a DD by far, maybe 3000-5000 km per year.

a friend owns a gallardo superleggera - He said he gets his oil changed at a local place specializing in HIGH end exotics.. It maintains his warrenty etc.. I think he pays like $250 for an oil change due to under trays etc and it takes a stupid amount of pure synthetic oil.

It's not all just oil changes though. On jalopnik.com a way's back they had a Carrera GT getting it's 4 year typical maintenance. It involved basically tearing the entire car down to the individual nuts and bolts and inspecting everything. No price listed, but I would imagine it would run well into the many tens of thousands of dollars even if nothing requires replacement.

They've shown other supercar repairs. Things like clutch changes can sometimes require you to basically take apart all the car around it. Huge amounts of labor for everything.

Seems you have "faster" and "quicker" confused. And according to the specs on the current flavor of Galladro, your EVO is not quicker either (unless it does 0-100KPH in less than 3.3 seconds):

0-62 mph: - 3.3 sec
Wheelbase: - 104.9 in
Top speed: - 205 mph

R&T tested the ragtop flavor and it shows a top speed (mfgr spec) of 201 MPH. Can your EVO do 200 MPH??

3.3 seconds seems a bit quick for one.. I was impressed with the accell - but not THAT impressed. I felt with a twin disk - my evo would best it.

a low 11sec evo does 0-60 in 3.3, maybe even less.

Yeah, and a low 11 sec Evo does it with a lot less style and a lot more PITA than the Gallardo.

BTW, that statement about a 911 should be changed WSB My 911 was no more to maintain than my Evo or STi. Sure the oil changes were 120 instead of 70ish, but I only did them once every 10k miles (which was still 5k miles too soon, according to Porsche and the place I took the car.) I even had a few things go bad on it and need repair, MAF, airbag sensors, and coolant resevoir bottle. None of which cost anything too rediculous. Tires were the same as the Evo/STi because the fronts were narrow and the rears were wider it evened out. Now a major thing like a clutch job is going to cost a lot. But no regular maintenance (including brakes) cost me any more than the Evo did, and it needed that maintenance less often.

The P-car dealers out here must just be good at extortion then.
