SRT-4 Motor In A 2G GSX?

Kind of a newbie to DSM here (and new to this site), love Evo's and the 2G GSX's, just learned quite a bit about the Galant VR4's too, sexy cars.

I was wondering if it would be possible to swap in a 2.4l I4 from the 2003 - 2005 SRT-4 into a 2G Eclipse GSX? I'm thinking no because the GSX is AWD and the SRT-4 is FWD, but then again I don't know too much about engine swaps. Any help/tips/advice would be appreciated. (:

Im sure anything could be done with the right amount of money, but why the hell would anyone want to do something so stupid!!! The power potential of the motor that is in those cars stock is pretty dam amazing.

Do you mean the power potential of the stock motor in the GSX's is amazing? I was originally planning on buying one and just pulling the motor and doing a full rebuild/build on it and putting it back in the car, but I've heard great things about SRT-4 motors and they're capabilities. Plus, I love how SRT-4's sound. The only reason I won't buy an SRT-4 is because I dislike the idea of building a FWD car... don't like it at all.

Stock the motors can handle a decent amount of power. Easily 400hp on a stock motor if not more depending on the setup and tune. If you are doing a complete rebuild, I would suggest saving a bit more money for forged internals, this way you can safely run higher boost and make considerable more power.

Anything I should do to reinforce the drivetrain and all that good stuff? The most I'd wanna have for HP would be 500, but I'd probably feel good enough if I could make 400awhp. And do you know of any 6-speeds that would fit the GSX?

There are no 6 speed swaps that I am aware of, but considering if you plan on drag racing a 6 speed is not for you. Ask any of the evo guys on here and a lot of them with the 6 speed mr's have swapped to the 5 speed. As for reinforcing the drivetrain, a good clutch would be a great place to start. There is a lot of things you could do to reinforce the drivetrain. It just depend on how much cash you are willing to spend. My recommendation is to join a dsm forum and do a bit of research, like this one http://www.dsmtuners.com/ You can also get in to contact with a company called Buschur Racing. They are a vendor here on evom. They deal with dsm's as well as evo's so they know their stuff!! www.buschurracing.com

I don't plan on doing drag, or anything in specific, I've just always loved 6-speeds, but if it's not worth it then I will keep the 5 speed or get it rebuilt/a new one.

Thanks for all the help!

Not that you said it, but if you want the extra displacement that the 2.4l srt-4 motor has over the 4g63, you can use a 4g64 block in the dsm (2.4l n/t motor found in the gs spyders)

IF you were to ask this question on a DSM forums you'd probably get run off the board. The 4G63 that comes in a GSX is legend and doesn't need to be swapped out for anything. Leave the Neon motors in Neons. Besides that, the two engines are turned/oriented differently and would require major fabrication to make it run.

An engine does not care if its hooked up to a FWD trans or an AWD trans. The 4G63 from a same year GS-T (FWD) would be exactly the same.
