That is just ridiculous. Pretty awesome.

Might as well be an evo, it's a 4g63 eclipse. Not too far off.

That's not an Eclipse. It's a tube chassis with a built motor that started life as a 4G63.

But that's drag racing. Any car at this level has just as many modifications. Bottom line is the fastest 4cyl car in the world is Mitsubishi powered and it wears and Eclipse body. That car started out as a real Eclipse GSX/Talon Tsi AWD, before eventually becoming what it is now. They started out back halved with the engine turned long ways, now I guess he's full tube chassis.

The thing is, it always seems the sanctioning bodies these guys run in always appear to be against them. I guess because there's no support from Mitsubishi in the form of ad dollars. But the rules always seem to favor the Honda or Toyota powered vehicles.

I have a hard time sympathizing with that. If you're going to spend an immense amount of money and time on a race car, it should be done within the known rules. I wouldn't build a V-12 top fuel dragster and expect to compete in NHRA events. So yeah, awesome, he has a crazy fast 4-banger but that's all he has.

I don't know the whole story, as I don't follow import drag racing very closely. Maybe someone who does can chime in. But I know enough to say it isn't quite like that. The "Toyotas" that run have been just as crazy. Tube framed, RWD, 2JZ powered, with Solara, Celica, Scion tC, and Tacoma bodies on top, yet they're "legal."

Hondas with engines hanging out over the front of their axles with Ford 9" "rear" ends in FWD mode - legal.

Back halved Supras with Chevy Powerglide transmissions - legal.

This Eclipse, not? Because its too radical or too fast? Somethings wrong with that.

Here one of those "Civics" I was talking about...

I don't understand why somebody would say something is or isn't a car. What makes it not an Eclipse? Because it's been modded? I understand that it's a tube chassis, but it's still based of the car it began as. But if it's no longer an Eclipse because it's had parts swapped out left and right, then is my Mirage no longer a Mirage because darn near every part has been pulled from it, to include the engine?
