Just to partially correct you since I can't remember off the top of my head, but I believe the 7 bolts started being put in in 93, so early 1g's had 6 bolts and later 1g's and all (turbo) 2g's had 7 bolts

yup, any turbo dsm built after april of 92'(i'm pretty sure) came with 7 bolt motors.
also, the dsms have the engine on the driver side and trans on the passenger sides. the evos are the opposite.

Sorry but I think he should have known this before buying a Evo especially being the DSM was in the US 13yrs before the Evo finally migrated.

Evo 1-3 had a similar motor to the second generation US spec Eclipse/Talon. So, yes they have the same block as some Evos, just not the one you have.

Yes the 4G63 block is basically the same as the Eclipse and Talon, but the head has a
much different configuration in the Evo's.

Yeah, the evo 1-3 came with the original design but 2g style 7 bolt 4g63, motors were no joke though, hah. I think they already had the updated two piece thrust bearing design in them too, we didnt get that till the 98 or 99 7 bolt dsms.

See, before an evo was an evo, there was the galant vr-4, which carried the original dohc 4g63t setup found in early 1st gen t/e/l's aka dsms. Mitsu head hancho said ralliart can't have a newer style body car to mess with until they wont wrc with the galant, and they did. Thus the evolution (lancer gsr) being created from the lancer.

wow thats a lot of info thanks, but people were telling me they had the same motor, and I doubted that an evo 8 had the same block as an eclipse although both were 2.0
