WRX vs. Turbo Lancer ES

Okay, I've owned my Lancer ES for almost two years now, and I'm sick of getting beat by every car on the road. I want to know if I should look into buying a WRX, with the all wheel drive, or Turbo my lancer and get a LSD. with the cost of a new WRX I will only pay $100 more a month than what I'm paying now. I've also really thought about getting an EVO but I don't know if I can afford the extra monthly and not want to do anything to the car. also I like having fold down rear seats, because I'm a surfer, and the EVO doesn't offer that. Any thought? thanks

Dont forget to check the insurance difference before you buy. I would go with the WRX or EVO. Its just a much better platform for mods, and who knows with the differece in your laner to these cars maybe you will not have to mod for a while. You will love the extra 100-150HP, and the handling.

cool thanks. I know I will enjoy the extra hp. and that's the other thing if I have a higher monthly I won't be able to afford many mods.

You might be able to find a used EVO now also for around the price of a new WRX, and rember EVO's come with a 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. People always forget how long are warranty period is for. So if you can get the EVO for the same price thats even better if you ask me. And the finace rate should still be low because of it being a 03. Mine was 3.99%, and my insurance is $64 a month.

nice. The only problem with buying a used EVO is that you don't knwo what has been done to it. Turbo's need a lot of maintenance to stay in tip top shape, and I don't want to get a bad one.

Try and find an EVO lover. There has been two that I know of for sale on this board. You have to ask lthe seller lots of questions, and be patient for the right one to roll around, You can save lots of $$$ buying used. Or you can get a new WRX. MP5 who I saw tonight at the track said his WRX which had $10,000+ in mods could not compare with the EVO. You might want to ask him what he thinks about the 2. He has a post on the Vishnu board about going to the track tonight. Either way you will enjoy. Hope I helped out.

If you're just looking to go fast in a straight line, why bother wasting the crisp suspension and braking characteristics of the Evo, and just find a decent RWD big American V8 machine for cheap and they're extremely readily modifiable. Plus if you want space, why not something like a Protege 5 (great car), the 2.5L (non-turbo EJ25) Impreza wagons or sedans, or something of the sort.

I'm in the same position you are, trying to get a WRX. Be careful with your pay off though, I can almost guarantee you're upside down on it. Have to sell it privately, because a dealers only going to give you 7, maybe 8k for it on trade in.

no in my car the rear seats fold down to allow access to the trunk. and the WRX for sale is too much, even though it's got lots of goodies. I do want an all around perfomance vehicle, because I have a great canyon by my house and I like to use it. I also try to AutoX every once in a while. and see I still love my car, I love the look, and I hate the new Ralliart. I actually want an EVO VII but way too much money and not as fast as the VIII. oh and I put a lot down for my car so I don't have much for the payoff.

wrx

if the evo's out of your reach, it's out of your reach. turbo charging the lancer won't compare to a stock wrx with awd. and since it's the end of the year, you may get a great deal on a wrx... which could possibly leave you room to do a few things to it. but if you CAN make the payments, why don't you test drive the evo?

You could always stage 3 your es instead of getting a new car. Spend on an upgrade rather than buy a new car. Your current car runs fine, just fix the problem. You want more speed, seems logical....
