I traded my old lancer for an 08 MkV. Best decision I've made in a long time. It's a brilliant car. Perfect balance of style, comfort, modding, performance, handling and practicality.
There are faster, sportier cars out there, but if you want something that does everything well, the GTI is the way to go.

i LOVE the GTI, especially the 2010 one. I'd also consider the 2010 mazdaspeed3 as well

ignore the snobs on here-the gti is great with a stick, but the DSG is a blast, so test drive one with that transmission before you buy one.

I had two but now down to one. I currently own a MKV GLI. This is a total winner car, it is absolutely no suprise why the GTI keeps toping the ten best cars and why despite having a HP disadvantage vs Ralliart or cobalts SS the GTI always comes first. The GTI epithimise the words "good all around car"

You are buying a superior quality built, it handles great, it is well equiped, it gets awesome gas mileage and it is an icon in terms of modding it. I put down 285lb-tq on a Mustang dyno with just a downpipe an air filter and a GIAC ECU tune, that is perhaps equal to or more than a Evo 8 torque with same mods.

I say you will like the car. I highly suggest you get the DSG though:

It is faster
It accelerates better
It gets better gas mileage

The 6 speed is also a good choice but the DSG tops it out with even better performance. I recommend you surf for a few days vwvortex.com

Also, I can answer any question you might have(pm me). Remember, yours truly(me) actively attend weekly friday meets (VW/Audi)

Carlos

Off course, you changed leagues, not just cars. A GTI orbits around a Lancer OZ or even the Ralliart(2.4l). Honestly, I am not suprised.

umm NO , those things are hideous they look like they're smiling. The TI on the other hand is a perfect blend of performance and features.

I'm never buying a fwd sports car again. I don't care how much power it has.
