Arrow Toyota FR-S coming to US/Canada as production version of FT-86 concept

from FT86club.com

The biggest question surrounding Toyota’s awesome FT-86 concept isn’t if the car will make it to production, but what it will be called. That mystery may have just been solved, with word that Toyota Motor Corporation has just filed a trademark for the “FR-S” name in both the U.S. and Canada.

The name certainly makes a lot of sense, with “FR” standing for front-engine, rear-wheel drive, while the “S” presumably being used to indicate that this is in fact a sports car. Like the FT-86 Concept’s name, it’s also a throwback to the Corolla AE-86 that inspired it.

I believe it when I see it. The way Toyota is right now you can expect to receive a check in your mail box for inconvenienece. Toyota has too many issues right now to be launching that car.

by the time that car is launched it would be already non-competitive. Besides that, look at the motor configurations(1.5 liter 105 hp, 2.0 liters 230hp), are we back in the 80's now? If people are asking still $30000 for 15 year Toyota Supras what would be the price on one of these ?

Carlos

but if they go with the boxer motor then that means swap time
hopefully the 6sp transmission they use for this car is as stout as the sti
then you just get a 2.5L Wrx motor, build it up, go drifting

How are people still excited about this car? A way's back they decided to make it more expensive and soft to basically be like a Solara replacement appealing to middle aged women and emasculated men who want a fuel-efficient coupe. Zzzzzz.

I'm pretty sure they debunk'd that as a rumor
as the CEO of toyota Japan expressed a great interest in this car since he owned a AE86 and is a big drift fan
but I guess we'll have to wait another year or so to know for sure
