The Subaru Community.

I don't get the Subaru community. I have been looking for 2008 Subaru WRX STi's and all of them want damn near what the car cost new with like 12,500 miles on it for a 2008! Does anyone know why they can demand so much and Evo's can demand far less? It's not like the Subaru's are anymore reliable than the Mitsubishi's, heck I would argue that the Subaru's are less reliable.

I've been looking for a wagon and Mitsubishi does not offer a wagon that I find feasible, and a ralliart does not count lol.

I've noticed that all Subarus tend to hold their value well. I was looking for a turbo Forester a few years ago and, first of all it was hard to find a used one for sale, and second when you did find one it wasn't cheap. Good cars though, the AWD system is better than Mitsubishi's for rain/snow/offroad but the dry pavement handling isn't comparable yet.

I've noticed this as well. Sellers on iwsti seem to ask on average $3K more for their STI than the same model year Evo. I've seen '06 STIs with 30K miles asking $25K. What gives?

unmodified the subaru is hands down a more reliable vehicle...and yes the unmolested evo is almost as good, but subaru's reliability IS better.

That's a myth. Subaru suffers more engine failures than any other manufacturer and their cars have their fair share of problems from engine, transmission, paint, etc. Most used STI's are on their second engines. Between the EVO and STI I would lean to the EVO as being more reliable but you are never going to get Civic reliability from these cars.

The WRX is reliable and cheaper to maintain in the stock form... i think that is the main reason.

When I was searching for my IX I noticed the same year STi commanded less money. This is in the NW though, and we tend to have tons of Subarus here.

Being a former scooby owner, I can honestly say that it's mostly just the STi's that maintain the high values, at least on the 07 and earlier chassis. The cost of a lightly modified and well tuned WRX vs a stock/nearly stock STi of the same year is often half if not less than half of the STi value. To this day I can't wrap my head around it. That and a large number of them actually refer to their cars modifications in stages. God forbid if you get a scooby and don't use their standard formula for modifications. My old bugeye WRX was a blast though.

They cost more because they don't make more power..haha. People know that evos are known for high hp, racing, and drag racing. That tends to cause people to look away when looking for a car...I dunno. That's my guess.

Because its a Subaru..its rated as one of the most reliable cars made today...even with the ringland issues on the sti but the reliability of every other model they make just prevent the sti ringland issue from making a dent of their reliability...

I never knew they were that reliable...but then again Mitsubishis aren't know for being reliable either.
